“The First Thanksgiving”

We are SO excited for our fearst tomorrow. The play will begin promptly at 10:30. Please plan extra time to find parking and bring your “ticket in the door” so you don’t have to sign in. Also, remember to bring your dish ready to serve with a serving utensil. If your child is a Native American Indian please try to dress them in brown or yellow (fallish colors) and Pilgrams in black. I’m a nut, I know, but they will look so stinking cute! Following the play and the feast you may take your child to the book fair. Just be sure you let Allison or myself know so we can make sure we know where all our students are and they are acounted for. I will also have a sign out sheet if you would like to check you child out after the feast.

Tomorrow is one of my favorite days in Kindergarten. Thank you so much for your support in help the tradition continue!

Foundation Capital Campaign

Foundation Capital Campaign

The Foundation is one week into its Capital Campaign. Have you donated yet? They are requesting a minimum, tax-deductible donation of $75 per student. This year they have new classroom incentives based on donor participation. One of them is the first classroom to achieve 100% participation will be the first class to play on the new turf field being funded by the Foundation. Note that all donations received from May 1, 2018 through Oct. 12, 2018 are included in these incentives. Please visit their website to donate today and for more information about their incentive levels at www.eastsideelementaryfoundation.org

In addition to contributing, Ms. Rose and I will be taking two students to Just Kiln Time to paint pottery at the Marietta Square. This date for two will be auctioned off during the Fall Festival Friday of Conference week!

The Foundation supports our school in so many wondrful ways and in ways the county can’t financially. Your support is what makes East Side and East Side teachers so great. Your donations go towards technology needs for grade levels, teacher trainings, our new Maker Space and much, much more. Every dollar counts! Thanks for your support!

Today and tomorrow!

Hello Rock Star Parents,

Today was an awsomely awesome and busy day! We started the morning making fresh squeezed apple juice that was delicious!! Then for STEM, we built Christopher Columbus a boat that would (hopefully) float. Please check out our class Shutterfly page for pictures. Tomorrow is our first class field trip to the Art Barn and EVERYONE is super excited! If you are sending a lunch, please make sure it is completly disposable! Please be sure your child wears tennis shoes…it is a farm… with animials….that eat…. and therefore….you catch my drift! I have our class shirts and the kids will put them on over the shirt they wear to school or they may change in the bathroom. I keep the class shirts all year long so you don’t have to remember one more thing the morning of field trips.

Also, East Side’s Foundation Capital Campaign is happening right now!!! This is our schools largest fundraiser. Your donations pay for grade level materials that the county can’t provide, additional teacher training like our Columbia Reading and Writing and O.G. training and much much more. Please go to the link below and donate. Thanks for making our school so GREAT!!!                  http://www.eastsideelementaryfoundation.org/

Have a wondereful weekend!!!

Conference Sign-Up

Hi Parents,

You are receiving this email because you have more than one student at East Side Elementary this year, and it is time to sign up for Parent/Teacher conferences. (Can you believe it?!) Below you will find a link to the sign-up genius sheet I have created for conferences. Parents with more than one student at our school get priority access to the page a few days prior to the rest of the class (they will get access to the page on September 20th). Please view the sign-up sheet and follow the prompts to select a time for your family. Thank you so much, and I look forward to meeting with each of you soon.

Mrs. Roberts

NOTE: We only have four classmates without a sibling here at East Side. Those four please hold off on signing up until September 20. Thank you kindly!

Reading Folders

The class is so excited to be bringing home their very own BLUE Reading Folders! Although I am still reading with students to find their current DRA reading level, they are ready to begin READING!!!! Please read the information in the folder and return the book each day in the blue folder. It this point in our “reading journey”, I want the readers to touch each word as they read/say it and use the picture the help with tricky words or words they can’t read YET! Help them enjoy reading and celebrate the fact THEY ARE READERS! It’s about the journey, not the the product and the journey has just begun!

I also want to send out a HUGE heart-felt THANK YOU for spoiling me on my birthday! I was overwhelmed with cards, gifts, coffee, lunch and a ton of happy birthday wishes! Thank you for thoughtfulness and generosity and most of all, sharing the LOVE!

We are readers!

The class is so excited to bring home their second book they can read!!! It is called “My Letter Book”. This week the book is focusing on the sight word THE. Please have your child practice touching each word as they read it…The astronaut. The apple. We are working on noticing capital letters and periods. Keep these books as they come home every two weeks. They focus on sight words and the kids can read these books independently!

Also, the class learned a new word Oviparous. Ask them what that word means!

Happy Reading!
