Happy Monday!!

This week, we will read about the World Series during Reading. Students are very good at navigating the News2You reading material.  I’m excited to have the leveled curriculum to use in class. Students will continue to write on the N2Y articles each week. They will have a comprehension test Friday morning. Reading A to Z Baseball Game.

In Math this week, we will continue working on identifying coins.

Social Studies:  Africa location, flag, weather, what foods originated from Africa, what animals are in Africa.

Science:  Aquatic Biomes, Arctic Biomes

This week life skills:  Push in your chair after you get up.

October 8 – 12

Happy Monday

This week News2You story is about Octopus day. Students will answer questions and locate information in the text to support the main idea and key details. We are also using reading A to Z for writing and reading skills.   Why Does an Octopus Need Eight Arms?  This is the book we are reading from A to Z.

In Math this week, we will continue working on identifying coins.

Social Studies:  Africa location, flag, weather, what foods originated from Africa, what animals are in Africa.

Science:  Aquatic Biomes, Arctic Biomes

You will be getting information about field trips in the next couple weeks.  Please be watching for permission slips to come home.  Per district policy, students will not be permitted to attend field trips without signed consent forms.

Happy Monday & Welcome Back!!

I hope everyone had a great break!  Now, it’s time to finish the quarter strong.  The last day of the first quarter is October 10.  Can you believe we are one fourth of our way through the year already?? We ended the week before break with some fun activities.  We will continue our normal routine with writing about the current N2Y story which is Fall Pumpkins in ELA and finish with a Reading quiz on Friday.  We are also using reading A to Z for writing and reading skills.

Science:  Aquatic Biomes, Arctic Biomes

October 15 – 19 is conference week.  Students will be released at 1:30 each day.  Please look for the calendar being sent home early this week and sign up for a conference time.  I will update the conference schedules sent home daily.  During the conference, we will discuss your student’s current academic performance, behavior, social skills, and life skills.  I may discuss updating IEP Goals and Objectives if your student has mastered or nearly mastered objectives, but we will not be able to have formal IEP meetings during your conference time.

September 4- 21

September 17-21

This week News2You story is on SpaceCraft To The Sun.  Students will read NASA’s Parker Solar probe mission launched. Students will answer questions and locate information in the text to support the main idea and key details.

Math –  Math games to count our coins and total up collections of coins.

Science- Simple machines demonstrate the effect of simple machines.

September 10-14

Our News2you current event was on Weather-Ready Nation.  Students read about dangerous weather, how they are identified and predicted.

Math we are reviewing money identifying coins and counting like coins to a dollar.

Science – Demonstrate the effect of balanced and unbalanced forces on an object in terms of gravity.

 

September 4-7

Our News2you story was on food truck festivals.  Students were reading about what a food truck is and different kind of food available on food trucks.  We watch videos on what it is like to work inside a food.

In Math, we are reviewing the money unit.  All student are getting to move at their own pace with money.  We are staying on money through September.

Science we will continue our investigation of how objects move.

This week our Reading/ELA News2You article is about a Four-Day School Week across the nation.  Students are reading how some school districts are going to school just four days a week.  Writing activities will be based on our current story for the first couple days.

In Class

August 20 – 24

This week the News2You article is on clothes.  Students will read how clothes have been modified for people with physical disabilities.  Students will practice comprehensions questions, identify keywords from the story, and take a quiz on the article at the end of the week.  Students will have the opportunity to practice the quiz question each day.  Anchor Literature:  We are reading Because of Winn-Dixie
In Math, we are continuing our unit on money.  Students are learning to recognize coins by name, appearance, and value, counting combinations of like coins, counting combinations of mixed coins, or counting combinations of coins and bills based upon their individual skill level.

In Science, we are learning about Potential and Kinetic Energy.  What causes objects to move?

My name is Alnita Johnson and I am the teacher at Floyd Middle School.   This will be my second-year teaching at Floyd.  I am so very excited to have the opportunity to work with your children.

I’m looking forward to another year with some of our returning students as well as the new friends who will be joining our classroom!
