Welcome to 5th Grade!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! My name is Ms. Coyle, and I am so excited to be your teacher this year! This is my first year teaching 5th grade at Pitner,  and this will be my sixth year of teaching! For the last two years, I was a 4th grade teacher at Pitner, and I am excited to be moving up to 5th grade. I have also previously taught Kindergarten and 3rd Grade in Conyers, Georgia, but I am so thankful to be back “home” in Cobb County! I attended Baker Elementary as a student, and I graduated from East Paulding High School before attending the University of Georgia! Go Dawgs! I graduated from UGA in the Fall of 2013 with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and I have also obtained my gifted endorsement and teacher leadership endorsement during my career as a teacher. Additionally, I just recently graduated with my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University! I have a passion for teaching and learning, and I love to share my joy of learning with my students! In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors. You will often find me on a softball field, volleyball court, rock climbing, or hiking somewhere new!

I am looking forward to meeting you and your family at our Open House Event on Tuesday, July 30th from 4:00-6:45. Open House and Sneak-A-Peek are all merging into this one date to make it more convenient for you. There will be 3 different sessions starting promptly at 4, 5, and 6. Each session will last for about 45 minutes, and you only need to attend one per classroom. This will give you an opportunity to visit different teachers if you have more than one student at Pitner. You may go ahead and bring in your supplies at this time if you have them, so we can begin getting you organized for the first day of school! Please, label any personal supply items (backpacks, lunchboxes, pencil boxes, etc.) with your child’s name.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me  at amy.coyle@cobbk12.org. This year, we will be using Class Dojo as our daily and weekly “blog.” I used Class Dojo last year to communicate with families directly and post important weekly updates, and I received very positive feedback from previous year’s families about the site. When you come for Open House, I will be able to get you set up with the system. I can’t wait to meet you, soon!

Sincerely,

Ms. Coyle

PS: I would LOVE it if your student would like to send me an email before the first day of school introducing themselves! This will help me get to know them before they arrive, and it would also be a great beginning of the year activity for them to get their brains focused on writing again! I will be sure to respond to their email if they choose to do this activity. This is, of course, completely optional!
