Language Arts Blocks 1, 2, 4, & 5

Today was spent learning some of the basics of getting around Durham and how 6th grade is.

I discussed with the students that they will be receiving a textbook eventually for my class that can be written in and taken home, but they may also leave it in my classroom and use the online version of the textbook. The online information will be coming soon with the book as well.

For materials, my students may use a separate SMALL binder or folder OR can just have a language arts divider in a bigger binder with another subject(s). The main goal is to have a set place to neatly keep their LA papers.

HW – Students must tell their parents about today. I told them I know they will say “we did nothing” but that does not count for their homework. They can share about their teachers, classes, lunch, etc.

AC LA Block 3

Not only is this language arts class but lunch time too! We spent part of class talking about lunch procedures and our bathroom break time which is important stuff to 6th graders. 😉

In addition to the textbook information and materials listed above, I want to let parents know that sometimes my blog will be similar between my AC & my regular classes for writing assignments or have the same readings, but that does not mean they are.  Expectations for AC writings and how AC uses or discusses the readings will vary. Assessments in AC will also be different from my regular classes even if on the same topic. If at anytime you have a question about the differences, feel free to contact me.
