All Classes:

  • Students were given a revision checklist to use with their “15 Sentence Portrait” draft yesterday.
  • Students continued revising his/her draft, and then the student chooses a partner to exchange drafts with and check using the checklist.

Homework: No homework. Enjoy the long weekend, unless you just want or need to do some work on your draft at home.  Remember, we will all be typing our final copy in class next week.

August 30

Thurs Aug 30

All Classes (except Block 5):

  • Students were given a revision checklist to use with their “15 Sentence Portrait” draft
  • After the student revises his/her draft, the student chooses a partner to exchange drafts with and check using the checklist.
  • Students were not able to fully finish this today, but no worries. We will pick up where we left off and finish revising tomorrow.
  • BLOCK 5 took the DGP quiz today so that class will be revising tomorrow.

Homework: No homework tonight, unless you just want or need to do some work on your draft at home.  Remember, we will all be typing our final copy in class next week.

All Classes:

  • Students completed the DGP Quiz over Weeks 1 & 2 today. students were allowed to use their notes and composition book if they wanted.
  • BLOCK 5 was not able to take the quiz today. There was no time with the early release schedule. It will be tomorrow.

Homework: Students should have all the sentences #1-15 drafted for your “15 Sentences Portrait” assignment. I will be checking this off tomorrow.

All Classes:

  • Students should have their composition books to study for the quiz tomorrow.
  • I reminded them to make sure they have everything written for Weeks 1 & 2, even if they were absent. Also, they are able to use their composition book on the quiz, but it will not help them if they can not read what they wrote or know what the abbreviations and markings mean.
  • Discussed Sentences #11-#15 on the “15 Sentence Portrait” assignment.
  • Continue working on your draft

HomeworkBe ready for the DGP Quiz over Weeks 1 & 2 TOMORROW.  Also, have all sentences #1-15 drafted for your “15 Sentences Portrait” assignment. I will be checking this off on Thursday.

All Classes:

  • Students were given their composition books even though we are not doing the DGP warm-up this week. It is to study for the quiz on Wed Aug 29th.
  • I had a conversation with ever class about making sure they have everything written for Weeks 1 & 2, even if they were absent. The discussion also included that although they are able to use their composition book on the quiz, it will not help them if they can not read it or know what the things are they have labeled or abbreviated.
  • Review Sentences #1-#5 on your “15 Sentence Portrait” assignment.
  • Go over Sentences #6-#10 on the assignment.
  • Continue working on your draft

Homework: Have sentences #1-10 drafted for your “15 Sentences Portrait” assignment for class tomorrow. Also, be ready for the DGP Quiz over Weeks 1 & 2 on Wed Aug 29th.

  • Complete DGP Week 2, Day 5 in your composition books
  • Turn in your Sentence Structure worksheet if not turned in on Thursday
  • Pass out instructions for the “15 Sentence Portrait” writing assignment and go over Sentences 1-5
  • Students began drafting Sentences 1-5

Homework: Don’t forget about the open notes quiz over DGP Weeks 1 and 2 on Wed Aug 29th.

BLOCKS 1, 2, & 3:

  • Complete DGP Week 2, Day 4
  • Continue labeling on the sentences I gave you on the 2nd Sentence Structure sheet.
    • In the independent clause, dependent clause, and fragment boxes, students should write what makes that sentence independent, dependent, or a fragment.
    • In the other 5 boxes, students are to put brackets [  ] around every clause and label it as IND or DEP to demonstrate for me they sentence types.
  • Block 1 turned in there sheets today. In the other classes, they are to finish tonight if they did not finish in class today.

Homework: Blocks 2 & 3 need to finish the sentence structure sheet. Also, all blocks be ready for an open notes quiz over DGP Weeks 1 and 2 on Wed Aug 29th.

AC BLOCKS 4 & 5:

  • Complete DGP Week 2, Day 4
  • Continue completing the 2nd Sentence Structure sheet by:
    • Writing in each box an example of the sentence structure the same as the title of the box.
    • In the independent clause, dependent clause, and fragment boxes, students should write what makes that sentence independent, dependent, or a fragment.

  • On a NEW Sentence Structure worksheet, students wrote sentences I gave them for each sentence structure type.
  • Then students began labeling and/or explaining each sentence for why it is that type. For example, in the independent clause box, the student should write to the side what makes that sentence an independent clause. In the complex sentence box, they can label the clauses with IND or DEP and brackets as we did this past week.
  • No classes finished this so we will finish it tomorrow in class.

  • No classes finished this so we will finish it tomorrow in class.

Homework: If you did not come see me during homeroom to retake your Parts of Speech Quiz and your scored a 70 or below on it, you must come to me during homeroom tomorrow.

Also, there will be an open notes quiz over DGP Weeks 1 and 2 on Wed Aug 29th.
