Thanks to the parents who joined us for the Expert Day and the Long family for planning a fun Thanksgiving activity!


December 1

Good evening! We had a great start to our week! The students showed amazing teamwork and initiative today!

This week, we are:

Reading: describing the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.  Students will apply this skill with Time for Kids informational articles.

Writing: writing informative texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.  Students will reflect on how they can improve their new informational writing pieces.  They will choose an article to research for a two-day “Write-On Demand”.  Later this week, we will begin a unit on letter writing! This week, we are also integrating cursive into the writing workshop!

Grammar: using abstract nouns in a sentence. This will be reviewed in class and practiced in homework assignments.

Spelling: identifying contractions with Sort 14!

Math: using multiplication to find the area of a rectangle. Students did an amazing job recalling and applying their previous knowledge of area, especially the formula! Later this week, we will partition shapes into equal parts and identify the unit fraction.

Science: comparing and contrasting color, texture, and particle size of top soils. Students will participate in hands-on learning activities in the STEM Lab this week!

Social Studies: presenting Social Studies projects!

Important Information:

Chorus Performances: Support our students in Teasley’s Chorus tomorrow night at the Smyrna Tree Lighting and Thursday at the Vinings Tree Lighting!

Wish List: 4×4 post-its for Guided Reading, 3×3 post- its for Writing Conferences, copy paper, notebook paper, and pre-sharpened pencils (Ticonderoga pencils are great!).
