Day: March 14, 2016

Monday, March 14

Happy Monday! We are beginning the 4th quarter of the school year this week.

This week, we are:

Reading: describing how characters’ thoughts, feelings, and actions contribute to the events in a story. We are continuing to examine character traits and the mood of a story. There is a homework activity called “The Name Jar” that is due on Friday. Students need to interview parents about the story behind their names. We will also complete a fun character traits activity about leprechauns!

Writing: writing opinion pieces on demand with prompts similar to milestones writing tasks.

Language Arts: writing complete sentences with subject verb agreement. There is NO spelling list this week. We are also practicing our handwriting and cursive skills in class.

Math: recognizing and categorizing shapes/quadrilaterals based on similar attributes. The word problem of the week is due on Friday!

Science: describing the four ways to produce heat. The “Thermal Energy” packet is due on Friday!

Social Studies: explaining how Thurgood Marshall expanded freedoms and rights for Americans.

Important Information:

Milestones Packet: This is due on Friday, March 18!

Wish List: #2 non mechanical pencils, copy paper, and erasers.

Class Dojo: We are now using Class Dojo instead of the Leader in Me clip chart for our classroom behavior management system! Students earn and lose points throughout the day based on their leadership choices. We are still working on technical details with this new system. Right now, students must try to earn 10 points per day in order to earn a coupon at the end of the week. Today, students will bring home an informational sheet giving directions for ┬áchecking on your student’s points throughout the day on the app or the website. We are looking forward to seeing students go above and beyond in their leadership! Thank you for being patient with us!

Peanut Free Zone: Please refrain from sending food containing nuts in snacks and lunches. We have several students with severe nut allergies in our class! Thanks so much!

Milestones Letter: Today, students are bringing home an informational sheet from the county about the Milestones test and schedule. Students will NOT have homework during those days. Be on the lookout for a sign up genius for testing snacks!

Watershed Puppet Show: On Wednesday morning, students will enjoy a puppet presentation about conservation of natural resources in our community! This supports one of our 4th quarter science standards about conservation and recycling!
