Can you believe we have almost completed the first month of third grade?!

This week, we are:

Math: fluently adding and subtracting within 1,000 using strategies and algorithms. By now, students should have selected their favorite strategy for addition and subtraction. We are almost solving two-step addition and subtraction word problems using equations with a letter representing the unknown quantity and assessing the reasonableness. Today, students completed TWO examples of how to solve a two-step addition/subtraction word problem. The four word problems homework is due on Thursday!

Writing: writing personal narratives with punctuated dialogue, organized paragraphs, satisfying conclusion, as well as moving onto revising and editing if ready.

Reading: describing characters in a fictional story based on actions, motivations, and feelings as well as how the characters contribute to the sequence of events. Today, students began by describing themselves with four character traits. Also, we are launching Daily 5 reading centers!

Language Arts: creating irregular plural nouns.

Science: describing rocks based on physical attributes. Rocks p. 2-3 is due on Friday.

Social Studies: moving onto map skills by using cardinal directions! The Greek Architecture reading assignment with comprehension questions is due on Friday.
