Monday, October 31

Happy Halloween!

This week, we are:

Math: using properties of multiplication and division (associative, commutative, and distributive) to solve equations. Today, students learned the distributive property. There are notes in the math journal to assist students at home as well.

Writing: writing informational pieces on one topic with facts, definitions, and details through the writing process. We are proud to see students independently producing paragraphs!

Reading: recounting fables, folk tales, and myths from diverse cultures; determining the central message, lesson, or moral and explaining how it is conveyed through key details in the text. Today, students reviewed the differences and similarities among fables and folk tales. Tomorrow, we will review myths. While reading every night, students should practice recounting main events and determining the central message.

Language Arts: making a subject and verb agree in sentences.

Science: describing how wind and water affect the Earth’s surface with Weathering and Erosion. Let us know if you can bring in Lego’s for an activity on Wednesday! This standard will be assessed NEXT Friday (November 11). Students will receive a study guide soon.

Social Studies: explaining how Susan B. Anthony expanded freedoms and rights for Americans. It is awesome to study this American hero during the election season!

Important Information:

Tiger Trot: Please continue to have family and friends donate to Teasley on your student’s behalf! We are thrilled about the Tiger Trot on November 18th!

Student Holiday: Students do not report to school on Tuesday, November 11 for Election Day.

Strong 4 Life Challenge Pep Rally: We will have a Get Fit Pep Rally on Friday afternoon at the end of the school day. Teasley will run on a half-day schedule for specials and lunch but still dismiss at the normal time. challenge-parent-letter_sy-16-17

Thanksgiving Feast Invitations: Stay tuned for an invitation to the Thanksgiving Feast for 3rd Grade on Wednesday, November 16th.

Talent Show Auditions: Our class will be performing a class act in the Talent Show on March 24. If your child wants to perform an additional act on their own, they can receive a separate permission form from Ms. Hardie or Miss Nichols.

Friday, October 28

Paul Revere Homework: Students need to complete the reading comprehension questions that go along with the Paul Revere reading passage by next Friday, November 4th. We are moving onto Susan B. Anthony next week. Students will be assessed on all 3 of the 2nd Quarter heroes (including Frederick Douglass) at the end of the quarter. We will do quick checks along the way to make sure students have learned what they need to about each American Hero.

Class Wish List: Sandwich and/or gallon sized zip lock bags, kid-friendly cleaning wipes

Pokemon in Math: On Monday, students will learn addition and subtraction game using Pokemon cards. Students can bring their Pokemon cards to math class on Monday if they want to. If students do not have Pokemon cards, they can use their deck of cards from Magical Morning of Math.

Science Experiments: If anyone would like to donate Lego’s or mints for two science experiments on Wednesday, let Miss Nichols know!

 

Field Trip Informational Form

An informational form for the Tellus Museum field trip is being sent home on green paper today. Please return the green form, pink permission form, and the payment in envelopeby November 18. Let us know if you have any other questions! 🙂

Tuesday, October 25

Specials Schedule: Due to teacher meetings, our class will have NO specials tomorrow. Please bring back ALL Media Center books tomorrow to be renewed or returned. On Thursday, our class will have double specials.

Field Trip: Today, students will receive a permission form about an upcoming field trip to the Tellus Museum! Please return money and permission form as soon as possible. We will have envelopes at school for students to fill out and put their payment in. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about fossils with hands-on experiences!

Monday, October 24

We are incredibly proud of the hard work students put in during our first day of researching in the computer lab! Check out the photos on Class Dojo!

This week, we are:

Math: using the properties of multiplication and division to help solve equations. Students have examples of the Associative and Commutative Properties in their math journals. We will discuss the other three properties later this week. Please discuss these properties with your students!

Writing: conducting research about one informational topic. The students are using Britanica School and World Book for Kids through the Cobb Digital Library. On Wednesday, we will visit Media Center to check out new books AND look at books for further research.

Reading: determining the main idea and key details of an informational text. We will use Scholastic Story Works for this skill! This will be assessed on Thursday.

Language Arts: using irregular verbs in a sentence.

Science: explaining how wind and water affect the Earth’s surface with weathering and erosion.

Social Studies: describing how Paul Revere spread freedom for Americans. For extra credit, students can practice/perform the poem, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, on Friday.

Tiger Trot Fundraiser: Please see the yellow handout sent home today for the school fundraiser. More information can be found on the PTA page on the Teasley website.

Publix Math Night: Tomorrow 5-7 pm! Miss Nichols will be there 6-7 to help you complete a fun math scavenger hunt through the store!

Boo Hop:

Friday is Boo Hop!!!  If you wish for your child to attend the school wide Halloween Dance, please click on the link below and follow the 3 directions given.  The last day to pay for Boo Hop is Wednesday October 26th.  You can only submit payment in person.  PLEASE DO NOT PUT PAYMENTS IN THE SCHOOL SAFE BUT IN THE BOXES MARKED BOO HOP.  Boxes are located in the front office and at the ASP check out desk.

Payments received after Wednesday will be returned.

This is be a quick week in 3rd Grade! The students worked hard in math centers today exploring the multiplication chart with the laptops!

This week, we are:

Math: observing patterns in the multiplication chart. Continue working on multiplication facts!

Writing: writing informational texts with facts and details. We are continuing to look at mentor texts that show us quality informational writing!

Reading: using informational text features to help us understand what we read.

Social Studies: describing how Paul Revere expanded freedoms for Americans. The Paul Revere assignments are due on Friday! These tasks can be completed at school and at home.

Science: identifying how wind and water affect the earth with weathering and erosion. The erosion packet is due on Friday!

Early Release continues through Friday, October 21st!

Career Day is THIS Friday!

Spirit Night: Tomorrow 5-8 pm at St. Angelo’s.

Tiger Trot: We will have our Tiger Trot Kick-off on Monday, October 24th! The Tiger Trot will take place on Friday, November 18. This benefits PTA and PAWS, two great organizations who provided Scholastic materials and Mathletics for our school! If you want a Tiger Trot t-shirt, please send in payment and form by this Friday.

Class Allergies: We encourage you not to send eggs, soy sauce, or nuts for snacks or lunch due to the allergies in our class. Thanks!

New Bus Routes: Please check the transportation page on the Cobb County website to confirm updated bus routes and times.

T-Shirts: Class t-shirts will be handed out today! Students can wear these shirts any Friday and on field trips.

Also, this Saturday morning is the the Spooktacular Chase 5K at Cobb Park in Smyrna! This will be a fun race with proceeds benefiting an awesome cause! Please sign up under “Team Teasley” if you want to join our team!

Perfect Attendance 1st Quarter

The student connection team would like to congratulate the following students who have had perfect attendance and NO tardies for the first 9 weeks of school.  These students will be allowed to dress down on Friday, October 14, 2016.  Each student will receive a dress down sticker to wear for the day when they arrive in their classroom on Friday morning.  Children will be recognized every 9 weeks.  We appreciate you, parents, for getting your children to school on time, every day!!
