Day: September 18, 2017

Monday, September 18

Tomorrow is the last day of fall testing! Hooray! Let’s make it the best by ensuring students go to bed early, eat a good breakfast, and arrive at school on time to not feel rushed before testing begins.

This week, we are:

Math: fluently adding and subtracting within 1,000. Students must have one strategy for each that helps them solve problems successfully. Students will also solve two step word problems using an equation with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Please use the math workbooks or the extra practice if students need more practice. These two standards will be assessed the week after fall break.

Writing: presenting small moment narratives at the first Writing Celebration of the year on Wednesday, September 20 at 8:45 am.

Reading: reviewing all of our reading standards for the quarter (main idea, asking and answering questions, describing characters, and context clues).  These will be assessed this week as well as the week after fall break.

Language Arts: adding suffixes to base words to change meanings and using context clues to define unknown words.

Health: comparing and contrasting healthy and unhealthy lifestyles. This will be taught and assessed this week as well as the week after fall break.

Social Studies: explaining how the American Indians’ choices of where to live affected how they lived. This Friday, we will have an American Indian day full of activities to learn about what life was like for the American Indians. Students need to bring a paper towel roll AND a toilet paper roll. These standards will be assessed the week after the break. A study guide for the assessment will be sent home on Friday.

Important Information:

T-Shirts: Please send in form and payment by Friday, September 22. I have envelopes at school for payments.

Spirit Night: Tomorrow night at Willy’s!

Class Wish List: Empty paper towel rolls and empty toilet paper rolls.
