Monday, December 18

Thank you to all the donations and guests at the Home for the Holidays lunch today! It was a wonderful time!

Ugly Sweater Day: To celebrate the end of school for 2017 and the beginning of Winter Break, students will be allowed to wear an Ugly Sweater on Tuesday, December 19th if they would like.  Please make sure your child wears it with Standard School Attire on the bottom. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Early Release: Don’t forget that the next two days are early release at 12:30!

Holiday book Exchange: Wednesday is our class book exchange! Let me know if your student wants/needs to use a book donated from our community partners to participate in the activity.

Friday, December 15

Media Center Update:  Due to scheduling conflicts, our class was unable to go to the Media Center today. We are now scheduled to go on Tuesday. Some students went individually during the day today. Thank you for being flexible!

Science Olympiad Applications: Mrs. Herbel has extended the application due date to Tuesday, December 19. Please return applications in time for teachers to complete their portion of the application.

Thursday, December 14

Graphing: Students are coming home with a graphing activity completed in class. This is not assessed on this quarter’s report card. The students worked hard and enjoyed this activity!

Media Center: Our class is going to the media center tomorrow to check out book to enjoy throughout the holiday break.

Home for the Holidays Lunch: Contact Mrs. Patel or see her sign up genius if you need to sign up for dishes to donate on Monday! It will be a lovely time with families.

Tuesday, December 12

 

I can’t believe we only have 6 school days left before the break and the end of the 2nd quarter!

This week, we are:

Math: showing data with graphs. This will not be assessed on the 2nd quarter report card. There is an optional homework assignment if students want to practice at home.

Writing: writing informational pieces with facts, definitions, and details. Students will complete one more informational writing piece this week in class.

Reading: applying comprehension skills to answer questions from a passage.

Language Arts: changing the meaning of root words by adding suffixes.

Health: comparing and contrasting the negative side effects of illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. We finished Friday’s lesson today in class. This will be assessed on Friday.

Social Studies: reviewing examples of productive resources.

Important Information

Giving Market: Our class will shop at the Giving Market (formerly known as Santa Shop) tomorrow morning. Students may bring money to shop on that day.

Explorers Assessment: Today in class, we reviewed the last 3 explorers with the study guide and our journal notes. The assessment has been postponed to Monday, December 18th. Students may take the assessment this Friday if they wish to.

2nd Quarter assessments: The last day of the 2nd quarter is Wednesday, December 20th. The last assessment, explorers, will be given on Monday, December 18th. If you will not be at school at all next week, please let me know and I will arrange for your student to finish all assessments this Friday.

Home for the Holidays: We are thrilled to have you join us on Monday 11:45-12:40 for our holiday lunch! Be on the look out for a sign up genius from Mrs. Patel to sign up for a dish to bring!

Holiday Book Exchange: Please send in a wrapped, 3rd grade level book on Wednesday, December 20th. If you are unable to donate a book but your student still wants to participate, let me know and I can provide a book for your student to use for the activity.

Science Olympiad: Tomorrow, students interested in applying for Science Olympiad will receive an application. The application is due on Friday, December 15th.

Calling All Judges!

Friday, December 8

Everyone stay safe this weekend and enjoy the snow!

Health: Students can finish their health activities in their science journals over the weekend or on Monday in class. We will review and complete this task on Monday.

Social Studies: Students will receive their study guides today for the explorers text on Friday, December  15. We will review the study guide and finalize notes about Hudson on Monday in class.

Giving Mart: Our class will shop at the Giving Mart (formerly known as Santa Shop) on Wednesday morning. Students may bring money to shop on that day.

Thursday, December 7

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Expert Extravaganza today! It was amazing!

Holiday events: This morning, students received a flyer about the Home for the Holidays family lunch and holiday book exchange. Mrs. Patel will be sending out a sign up genius for dishes for the lunch. Let me know if you have any questions!

Music grades: Today, students are coming home with a paper documenting their report card grade for Music this quarter. Let Mrs. Mungin know if you have any questions.

Wednesday, December 6

Six Flags Read to Succeed: Students received their Six Flags Read to Succeed logs! These are due on January 12. It is easy for 3rd graders to complete these logs due to the fact that they read 20 minutes every night! This will replace the Tiger Reading Challenge for December.

Holiday Party: Our class will have a  holiday party on Monday, December 18 at 11:45. Stay tuned for formal invitation including other holiday activities!

Book Exchange: Stay tuned for a formal letter about a holiday book exchange on Wednesday, December 20th. Students will play a fun game to pass around and receive a wrapped book to take home for the holidays. If you are unable to donate a wrapped book for your student to participate in this activity, I have extra books that have been donated by some community partners.

Monday, December 4

This week, we are:

Math: solving word problems using multiplication and division strategies with an equation containing a letter to represent the unknown factor. Students may practice at home with their “Work with Teacher” page or math workbooks. This will be assessed on Thursday.

Writing: practicing presentations for the Expert Extravaganza on Thursday at 9:30 am. Projects can be turned in by Thursday. We hope to see you there!

Reading: referring to parts of dramas in fiction texts. We will learn this beginning tomorrow and into next week.

Language Arts: understanding and adding suffixes to words.

Health: comparing and contrasting the negative side effects of illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. This was introduced by the counselors a few weeks ago. We will review this week and assess next Friday.

Social Studies: describing the motivations, obstacles, and accomplishments of Henry Hudson. This is our last explorer for this unit.

Important Information:

Barnes and Noble Night: Tomorrow night 4-7 pm! Come see teacher read-alouds, gift wrapping, chorus performance, and student artwork. I will be reading a holiday story 4:15! This is a great fundraiser for Teasley, even if you shop online throughout the next week with the Teasley code!

Class Wish List: Tissues, glue sticks, pencil erasers

Multiplication Facts: There will be ice cream celebrations for students who have mastered their facts before the end of the second quarter and at the end of the fourth quarter. Continue to practice at home! There has been a lot of progress! Keep it up!

Friday, December 1

Expert Day Projects: Expert Day Projects are due on Monday, December 4th. Students do not have to do a project for expert day. The Expert Extravaganza is Thursday, December 7th 9:30 am- 10:00 am. We hope to see you there for the amazing presentations!

Informational Reading Assessment: Students  will finish their reading assessments on Monday. We will move onto fiction reading skills on Tuesday with dramas.
