Hers and Heroes Dance!

Monday, January 28

We hope everyone stays safe tomorrow! If students want to practice any skills from class, they can practice addition and subtraction within 1,000 with the workbook and/or practice contractions for assessments on Friday.

This week, we are:

Math: subtracting and adding two 3 digit numbers using place value strategies. We are building on last week’s skill and will assess throughout the week.

Writing: building our opinion writing with reasons, examples, and transitions.

Reading: recounting stories, fables, and folktales with characters, setting, and plot. Students should be able to retell the main events as well as the central message/lesson learned. This standard will be assessed again this Friday.

Language Arts: using adjectives in sentences and spelling contractions: she’s, it’s, you’re, weren’t, won’t, didn’t, you’ve, they’ve, we’ve.

IB Central Idea: Strong leaders affect change. We will learn about Juliette Gordon Lowe’s leadership later on this week!

Tuesday, January 22

The students participated in some wonderful activities the past few weeks to learn about and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s wonderful contributions. Stay tuned for more details on Class Dojo!

This week, we are:

Math: subtracting two 3 digit numbers using place value strategies. We are building on last week’s skill and will assess throughout the week.

Writing: building our opinion writing with reasons and examples.

Reading: recounting stories, fables, and folktales with characters, setting, and plot.

Language Arts: using adjectives in sentences and spelling compound words and words with silent letters: someone, softball, nighttime, cherry pie, good-bye, part-time, ice-skater, large, watch.

IB Central Idea: Strong leaders affect change. We will learn about Jackie Robinson’s leadership this week!

Spirit Night: Tonight at Wing Factory!

Payment Reminders: Lunch money, ASP money, general school payments (field trips, etc.), and PTA/PAWs money can’t be combined, and we have no way to transfer money from one place to another. Change can not be made for overpayment, and we can not split payments. Envelopes should have a student’s name and what the money is for. 

 

Dress Down for International Night: Don’t forget that this Friday is International Night. We’ll be celebrating the diversity of our school with food, music, and dancing.  In honor of International Night, we’re having a special dress down day on Friday. Wear clothing that represents your country or culture. We can’t wait to celebrate with you. There is no charge for this dress down day!

Talent Show K-2: Is your student interested in showing off their amazing talent on stage? Auditions for the K-2nd Grade Talent Show will take place on Thursday, February 7, 2018 after school. Please complete and return the permission slip to school by Friday, January 25th at 2:45 pm.

Monday, January 14

We had a STELLAR time at the Tellus Museum today! We are ready for our upcoming science unit about stars and the sun!

 

This week, we are:

Math: adding 2 three digit numbers (hundred tens and ones) used expanded form and base ten. We will work on this standard for a few weeks.

Writing: determining facts vs. opinion and selecting a topic for our opinion writing.

Reading: asking and answering questions with fiction texts. We will work on this standard for a few weeks and integrate with our Social Studies content.

Language Arts: spelling words with consonant + ending syllable: puddle, saddle, bridle, handle, bottle, table, noble, nickel, global, label. Students will record these words and practice in class tomorrow. This will be assessed on Friday.

Social Studies: describing the life and contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Six Flags Reading Log: Keep logging those nightly reading times for a ticket to Six Flags! The logs are due to me by the end of January!

Science Fair Judges

Calling all Science Fair judges!!! We’ve had an overwhelming response to the science fair from Teasley’s students!  We are looking for parents/community members that would love to help volunteer by judging Teasley’s 2019 Science Fair student projects. Report Cards

Today, students will receive report cards for Quarter Two. Please sign above “2nd Nine Week Report Card” and return envelope to school on Monday. The envelope will go home every quarter with the report card. The report card can be kept at home and does not need to be returned.

Spanish Club

Teasley Spanish Club 2019

 

Teasley Club is a fun place where we can learn even more Spanish by playing games, making crafts, singing songs, and more!  Teasley Spanish Club is for Teasley students in 2nd -5th  grades and is offered for free by Sra. Vega.

Teasley Spanish Club session is 5 weeks long on Thursday from 230-330pm in my room (249).  Sessions will be filled via this form, first come first served.  Communication will be done by email.  Students will dismiss from Spanish Club by: pick-up outside the ASP front door, or by attending ASP. If needed, please be sure to register for ASP and pay the applicable registration and daily fees.

 

If your child is interested in the 2 upcoming Teasley Spanish Clubs please complete the form below by Friday January 18 and I will be in touch by email before the first Club date.

Moby Max: Today, students received a parent letter and login information for Moby Max! Students took a pretest and received lessons/activities on the website based on their current math progress. They can practice math skills and fact fluency with Moby Max at school and at home! Students recorded login information in the front of agendas as well.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday break!

This week, we are:

Math: adding 4 two digit numbers based on strategies of place value and properties of addition. We will work on this standard for a few weeks.

Writing: producing, expanding, and rearranging simple and compound sentences. We will move into opinion writing next week.

Reading: asking and answering questions with fiction texts. We will work on this standard for a few weeks and integrate with our Social Studies content.

Language Arts: spelling words with vowel O sounds: claw, small, draw, stall, salty, jigsaw, boss, gloss, near, under. These words will be assessed on Friday. In addition, we will review proper nouns and capitalization.

Social Studies: describing the life and contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Important Information:

Field Trip: Our class will go on a field trip to the Tellus Museum to learn about stars on Monday, January 14th! Please send in $10 payment and completed permission form by this Friday, January 10th! If you are interested in driving separately and chaperoning, let me know! Lunch will either be a sack lunch from the Cafeteria or a lunch from home in a disposable bag.

Perfect Attendance: Third quarter is now upon us, can you believe it?! The Teasley Attendance Team wants to reward those students who come to school on time every day. Students who have perfect attendance at the end of the quarter, ending on Friday, March 15th, will receive a free dress down day, surprise treat, and 1 entry into the end of the year drawing for a BRAND NEW BIKE! Students who have perfect attendance for the entire school year will also get to participate in an end of year celebration during the last week of school. Thank you so much for your support with getting your students to school on time every day.
