Coding in First Grade

Students in first grade will be in the Learning Commons this week to work on coding using the app Kodable. This is a free app that you can use at home as well. If you want to play at home, you just need to get the Kodalbe app and select student log in, then choose enter a class code. Contact me ([email protected]) for your class code. Then just choose your name and play!

Digital Citizenship

Students in 1st and 2nd grade have been in to learn about internet safety. We reviewed the three rules to stay safe while online. The rules are:

  1. Ask for permission before you get on the internet.
  2. Only chat with people you know.
  3. Stay on sites that are just right for you.

We also discussed how to decide if a site was just right for you. Students determined if a site was green, yellow, or red based on the content of the site.

All students will have gone through orientation by Monday. Students in grades 3-5 were reminded of the learning commons procedures by scanning qr codes and watching videos. I think they liked this better than just sitting and looking at another power point.
