After reviewing IXL problems as a class dealing with Scatter Plots, the size it up task was distributed. This is a real-world situation where students apply their knowledge of scatter plots to determine if a correlation exists between shoe size and height.

How will I be assessed: No hw. We will continue with the task tomorrow.

We continued with the “Size it Up” foot task.

We discovered how to incorporate prior knowledge of analyzing graphs, slope and linear models through qualatative graphs (story graphs). Comparing distance and time can be very easy!

Happy New Year! Yes, and it will be! This week we’ll be analyzing and creating Scatter Plots! Unit 5 will certainly be used here! Be aware homework will be graded online through IXL from now on. A 100% will be given when you reach a Smart Score of 80. If you get a Smart Score of 100, extra credit will be given (110%).

We’re going to have a great week! There are still opportunities to improve your grade but you have to do it now! Extra credit projects are still an option! On Monday we will take the CTLS for Unit 5 and a grade recovery either Tuesday or Wednesday.

## Monday 12/16:

No hw. CTLS was taken for Unit 5.

## Tuesday 12/17:

No hw. Tests from Thursday were returned/corrected. If a 70% was not achieved, there is a grade recovery test tomorrow.

## Wednesday 12/18:

No homework. Students received a class grade for the Jeopardy style Unit 5 review. A grade recovery test was taken for students who did not receive a 70% on the Unit 5 Test.

Unit 5 is coming to a close this week in all classes! We’ll prepare for the Unit Test 5 each day. Thursday is the Unit Test and Friday is the Math Inventory Test for Cobb County.

Ready for the next 3 weeks? That’s all we have to complete Quarter 2. Remember, there is an extra credit option available. Rubrics were distributed for this STEAM driven activity! A quiz will be given Friday for all classes on finding the equation of a line from graphs, tables and ordered pairs.

## Monday 12/2:

Learning Target: I can derive the equation y = mx + b.

Math 8 learned how to derive an equation when given two points. This can be very easy if you just follow the steps shown in class.

You did it! This week all classes will work on the same unit. Unit 5 is not to be taken lightly so make sure you are understanding everything we do each day. Baby steps! Friday both Math 8 and Adv M8 will have a quiz on slope and/or slope intercept form. ## Monday 11/11:

Math 8: I can identify the four different types of slope. I can use rise/run to find the slope of a line.

Adv M8: I can write an equation in slope intercept form. I can identify slope and y-intercept.

Really great job today! Math 8 discovered for themselves the four different types of slope.

All classes used the computer lab to take the CTLS for Unit 4. Tests and quizzes from last week were returned as well. All students were able to log on to IXL and practiced standards needing attention.

Grade recovery for Unit 4 Functions is tomorrow for anyone who did not score 70%. Quiz tomorrow for all classes. Math 8 will be quizzed on slope while Adv M8 will be quizzed on equations from two points and slope.

Math 8: I can derive calculate slope using the slope formula

Adv M8: I can derive the equation y = mx + b

After reviewing for the quiz, looking over homework and using IXL, students took their quizzes and/or grade recovery test for Unit 4.

Adv M8: No hw if you completed the assignment from Wednesday. Quiz on slope intercept form was taken.

### Week of November 4, 2019

We are certainly moving forward! Math 8 will have a quiz Thursday on Functions and a Test Friday. You are doing very well with this unit, keep the momentum! Adv M8 will also have a quiz Friday on everything with Slope. Soon we will be finding equations of lines in Slope Intercept Form.

## Monday 11/4:

Learning Target:

Math 8: I can determine if a function is linear or nonlinear

Adv M8: I can find the slop of a line when given two point and from a coordinate plane.

Math 8 reviewed a past hw assignments involving function tables and graphs. Our main concern is watching for negative values. Your output needs to be accurate. You can see this for yourself when graphing linear equations. If it doesn’t form a straight line, something is not right! Math 8 also learned the differences between Linear & Nonlinear functions three different ways.

### Week of October 28, 2019

This is a week of new beginnings  and opportunity for everyone! Math 8 will start Unit 4 Functions while Adv M8 will have their Unit 4 Test Wednesday! Everyone who did not receive a passing grade on the Unit 3 Test will have a grade recovery option Wednesday.

## Monday 10/28:

Learning Target:

Math 8: I can show mastery of Unit 3 material through CTLS.

Adv M8: I can determine if a relation is a function through tables, graphs and mapping diagrams.

Math 8 took the CTLS for Unit 3 today.

Adv M8 reviewed their study guides and completed “Functions & Relations” & “Card Sort Activity”. This was submitted at the end of the period.

How will I be assessed:

Math 8: No homework. Tests from last week will be returned tomorrow. Grade recovery is Wednesday.

Adv M8: No homework. The Functions & Relations Task should have been submitted. If you were absent, it is here: Function and Relations Activity 2020 & Card Sort Activity 2020 . Quiz tomorrow on functions. Unit 4 Test is Wednesday!

## Tuesday 10/29:

Learning Target: I can determine if a relation is a function.

Math 8 started Unit 4 “Functions” today after reviewing/correcting Unit 3 Tests from last week. Great job! Functions can be really easy.

Adv M8 took a quiz on Functions. These will be returned tomorrow. Unit 4 Tests will also be tomorrow.

How will I be assessed:
Math 8: No hw. We’ll continue with functions. Grade recovery is tomorrow if you did not make a 70% on the Unit 3 Tests.

Adv M8: Unit 4 Test is tomorrow. We will review by looking over the quiz taken today. Also, your grade recovery can be tomorrow as well if there is time.

## Wednesday 10/30:

Learning Target: I can determine if a relation is a function.

Both Math 8 and Adv 8 worked on functions today. Math 8 continued with completing function tables while Adv M8 took their Unit 4 Tests.

How will I be assessed:

Math 8: Finish Function tables practice here: Function Tables 1 2020 & Function Tables 2 2020. Grade recovery opportunity was today.

Adv M8: No hw. Took the Unit 4 Test on Functions. If you did not get a chance to take the recovery test for Unit 3, we’ll do that tomorrow.

## Thursday 10/31:

Learning Target: I can determine if a relation is a function.

Math 8 discovered how to correctly graph linear functions from tables to a coordinate plane while Adv M8 completed the CTLS Unit 4 Test.

## Friday 11/1:

Math 8 continued to practice determining whether or not a relation is a function. Students paired with one another to complete a practice hand out. We will continue with this on Monday.

### Week of October 21, 2019

This week Math 8 will finish Unit 3! Wednesday we will take Unit 3 Test Part 1 (Pythagorean Theorem) and Thursday we will have Unit 3 Test Part 2 (volume). Adv Math will continue with functions.

## Monday 10/21:

Learning Target:
Math 8: I will show mastery of unit 3 material by accurately completing the study guide.
Adv M8: I can determine if a relation is a function.

Math 8 students had the opportunity to finish the quiz from Friday. Afterwards a study guide was distributed. We will review this in full tomorrow.

Adv Math FINALLY had the opportunity to focus on Functions. Those half days last week…….Also, Pythagorean Theorem Tests were returned today.
