News From Room 105
FROM THE TEACHER: This week flew by and I am sure next week will do the same. We have a lot to complete during the 2nd nine weeks of school. We have been reading about Thanksgiving, writing about owls and learning about Veterans Day.
PROGRESS REPORTS: Progress reports will be sent home on the 16th. Please look over the report, sign the white copy and return to it me.
Friday is spirit day at Pitner. Please have your child wear their red class t-shirt on Fridays.
Congratulations to Molly for reaching the top of the sight word rainbow and to Blake for reaching for the stars and learning 100 sight words.
THANKSGIVING SNACK FEAST: A reminder that your donations for our snack feast is due on Wednesday next week. We ask for them a day early so that we make sure that we have enough supplies. The students in our class will represent the Native Americans and Pilgrims at our feast. Please do not go out and purchase any special clothing for your child if they don’t have it.
LANGUAGE ARTS: We continued to work on our phonics skills this week. We learned about the letter K and L. We practiced writing the letter and how it looks and sounds at the beginning of words. We also worked on sorting letters and pictures. During readers workshop we have been learning about nonfiction or informational books. We have been reading about Owls and Thanksgiving this week and learning to look for facts and details in nonfiction books. Please continue to work on sight words at home. Students will need to know 25 sight words by the end of the second nine week period.
MATH: We have been working on measurement this week. We will reviewing our numbers 1 – 20 next week and moving on to more and less after the break.
INTEGRATED STUDIES: We have learned about Veteran’s Day this week. We have also been working on a unit about Thanksgiving then and now. We will continue with this unit through the next week of school.
