News From Room 105

I think that I am starting to mold with all of rain that we have had during January. I am curious to see what the groundhog will tell us on February 2nd. I am ready for Spring.

Congratulations to Maggie and Harper who reached for the stars and learned 100 sight words.

Thank you to all of the parents who send in emergency snack so that I will have a little something to give children when they forget their snack.

Friday is spirit day here at Pitner. We would love it if you would have your child wear their red K t-shirt every week.

Next week is The Great Kindness Challenge here at Pitner. Students are welcome to dress up for the following days:

Monday: Crazy about Kindness: Crazy socks and crazy hair.

Tuesday: Shine Bright for Kindness – Bright clothing

Wednesday: Team Kindness – Sports attire

Thursday: Kindness Rocks – Rock star attire

Friday: Dreaming of Kindness – Pajama Day

LANGUAGE ARTS:

We have been working on rhyming this week. To teach students about rhyming we use word families. We have learned words in the “ot”, “og” and “op” word families this week. We will continue working with our word families for a few more weeks to help the students become proficient with rhyming. We continued to learn about narrative writing this week. This genre includes learning how to write about one moment in our lives. We wrote about a trip to the grocery store this week. Please continue to work on sight words at home. Knowing these sight words helps your child to become a better reader and writer. Students will need to know 50 sight words by the end of this third nine week period.

MATH:

We have been working on beginning addition this week and will continue with this study for a couple of weeks.

FROM THE TEACHER:

Welcome to winter! The cold weather finally arrived, left us and will be back again next week.  With this strange weather has come coats, hats, scarves and mittens one day and a jacket the next.  Please, please, please mark your child’s coat with his/her name or initials.  If we ever send home the wrong coat or jacket with your child please return it to us.

Please make sure that your child brings a coat to school every day. It has not usually hit the high temperature for the day when we go out for recess and our playground is like a wind tunnel so there is always a cold breeze blowing.

A copy of your inclement weather form is being sent home to you today. Please look it over and make changes if needed and return the form.  I will assume that no changes were needed if you do not return the form to me. Remember that we will do the best that we can to contact you but if we are unable we will release your child in the manner in which you have told us.

 100th Day of School:  We will celebrate the 100th day of school on January 17th. We will discuss, count, read and write about the 100th day of school.

REPORT CARDS: Please sign and return the envelope that your child’s report card came home in. I will need it to send the next report card home.

We will be creating words that belong to the “ad” and “ag” family. We will continue to work on our current writing unit next week. We are learning about narrative writing. This genre includes learning how to write about one moment in our lives. We will continue with this unit until the end of this nine week period.  Please continue to work on sight words at home. Knowing these sight words helps your child to become a better reader and writer. Students will need to know 50 sight words by the end of this third nine week period.

MATH: We have been working on the symbols for greater than and less than this week. We will decompose numbers to 10 next week and celebrate the 100th day of school.

INTEGRATED STUDIES:  We have been working on a unit about winter and being a good citizen this week. We will start on a unit about germs next week.
