The heat has returned, and we are back to having shortened time outside to ensure that our students don’t suffer from heat exhaustion.  I am really looking forward to some cooler weather in the coming weeks.

We are working to get all of our students on blue on our sight word rainbow.  Please keep practicing the sight words with your child.  We spell and say the words 5 times each here in class each day. We try to go slowly so that the children will remember all of the words, so this process will take a couple of weeks. For those of you who have moved beyond blue and know more sight words, please continue to work on them until you know all 75. Learning the sight words will help your child learn to read fluently.

Congratulations to Alyssa who knows all of the Kindergarten sight words and is working on her first-grade words. Congratulations to Omar, Harper and Oksana who made it to the top of the rainbow.

BOX TOPS: Thank you to all of the parents who filled the box top paper and sent it in. Our school receives $2.50 for every filled page we send it. Please continue to save those box tops.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We completed our unit on Zoophonics this week and will start reviewing our letters and sounds next week.  We will have a Zoophonics parade here at Pitner on Friday, October 4th to celebrate the completion of the unit. Each class/student will be asked to dress up in a simple costume to represent an assigned Zoophonics letter animal.  The information is in your child’s folder so please look it over. Our class is the letters A, B, C, and D. To be fair we had the students draw paper with a letter on it.

MATH: We have been working on our 2D and 3D shapes this week and will continue with this unit for another week. We are also counting from 1 – 50 in our class every day to help the students on reach their long term goal of counting to 100.

INTEGRATED STUDIES: We continued to work on our unit about maps and globe this week. We also started a unit on properties of matter. This unit teaches students how to use their senses to look at and analyse the world around them. We will do a boat experiment after learning about sink and float. We will sort items by shape, size, texture and color.
