FROM THE TEACHER:

Thanks you to all of the parents who donated for our Thanksgiving snack feast. The students had a wonderful time sharing their snack with their friends from the other Kindergarten classes.

Progress Reports:

Your child’s 4 ½ week progress report was in their folder on Wednesday. Please note the number of sight words that your child knows. We work on them every day in class and would appreciate it if you would go over them every night. We work down 1 row at a time so that your child can learn them a little at a time. When the row on the back of their folder is colored they know those words.

Holiday Season:

The holiday season will be here the week we return to school. For many children this is a very special time of the year and everyone has their own way to celebrate the upcoming holidays.  Please remind your child to respect the beliefs of others.  If you have a certain holiday tradition and would be willing to share with us please let me know.

Holiday Basket:

Please contribute for our holiday raffle basket. The theme for our class basket will be “Snacking Good Fun”. We will be collecting donations of any and every kind of snack item that you could possibly need for a fun evening.  Possible items would be bags of chips, pretzels, Cheetos or Fritos. Peanuts, salsa, cheese dip, cookies, snack cakes, bags of candy, boxes or bags of popcorn or anything else that relates to snacking. If you prefer to send in a cash donation, please send it in an envelope labeled “Festival Basket”. We will collect donations until Tuesday, December 3rd.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving break

FROM THE TEACHER:
This week flew by and I am sure next week will do the same. We have a lot to complete during the 2nd nine weeks of school. We have been reading about eagles, writing about eagles and learning about Veterans Day.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD WEAR RED, WHITE AND BLUE CLOTHING ON MONDAY TO HELP US CELEBRATE THE VETERANS WHO WILL BE ENJOYING BREAKFAST AT OUR SCHOOL. IF YOU HAVE A VETERAN ATTENDING PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO YOUR CHILD CAN JOIN THEM FOR BREAKFAST.

Friday is spirit day at Pitner. Please have your child wear their teal class t-shirt on Fridays.

The students had a wonderful time on the Day of Awesomeness here at Pitner. Each grade level had an hour and a half of fun in the bounce houses and obstacle courses that were set up out on our playground. Thank you so much to the parents who were able to come and help.

THANKSGIVING SNACK FEAST
We will have a snack feast with on Thursday, November 21st to celebrate our friendship in Kindergarten. Students will fill their plate with snacks and the entire grade will meet in the hall by our classes to share our friendship. There is a paper with more information in your child’s folder.

RAFFLE BASKETS:
Pitner’s annual Dinner with Santa is on December 6th and with it brings the tradition of the raffle basket. Each class collects goodies to create a themed basket that the PTSA raffles off at Dinner with Santa. The money earned is used by the PTSA to purchase items for the school. The theme for our class basket will be “Snacking Good Fun”. Please donate an item or two for our basket if you are able.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
We continued to work on our phonics skills this week. We learned about the letter K and L. We practiced writing the letter and how it looks and sounds at the beginning of words. We also worked on sorting letters and pictures. During readers’ workshop, we have been learning about nonfiction or informational books. We have been reading about Eagles this week and learning to look for facts and details in nonfiction books. Please continue to work on sight words at home. Students will need to know 25 sight words by the end of the second nine week period.

MATH:
We have been working hard to build our number skills by counting and writing the numbers to 20. We will be moving on to a unit about measurement next week.

INTEGRATED STUDIES: We have learned about Veteran’s Day this week. Next week we will start working on a unit about Thanksgiving then and now. We will continue with this unit through the next week of school.

Have a great weekend!
