September 16- 20, 2019

Chick-Fil-A biscuits are on sale on Tuesday mornings and help raise funds for the Vaughan Foundation.

Please have your child remember to bring their library books on Wednesday.

On Friday we will be celebrating our 3rd Rocket Blast incentive- Technology Day.  More details to come.

The PTSA School Store is open on Fridays.  Students can use actual money or Rocket Bucks they may have earned in school.  They must get here early to have time to go to the store.

Math– addition to 10 strategies (continued), begin subtraction strategies to 10

Thank you again for all the birthday goodies!  Everyone helped me to have a very special day.

We have completed our CogAT testing!  The students worked really hard and we had great attendance.

Don’t forget to keep having your child practice their sightwords.  When they are able to read them fluently please send me a note and I will test them.  I have a few students that have already mastered all the lists.  Check the back of your child’s agenda to see what list they should be working on.

September 2- 6, 2019

Rocket Blast update!!  Babcock’s Bulldogs raised $857.12 !  We had a great time running the obstacle course today.  Thank you to everyone that was able to donate to our PTA fundraiser.  Vaughan raised over $30,000!

Don’t forget No School on Monday for Labor Day.

CogAT Testing will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  We will be starting around 8:10 each morning.  We will be spending a large portion of our morning with the testing.  Please make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast, gets a good nights sleep and gets to school on time.

We will be spending a little time on Tuesday talking about the test.  I will be stressing to the students that this is not a test they need to study for and to just do their best!

Reading- Daily 5 Read to Someone (rituals and routines), learning the difference between fiction and nonfiction

August 26- 30, 2019

Thank you to everyone that sent in their Rocket Blast donations.  If you did not send your donation envelope in and would like to please send it in on Thursday, August 29.  Our class goal is $836.00 and our school goal is $32,500.00!!  After Fridays count our class has raised $496.00!

Next Friday, August 30 during our specials time (10:45-11:35) we will be running the Rocket Blast obstacle course.  Make sure your children wear tennis shoes and bring a bottle of water with them.

Wednesday is our Media Center day.  Please make sure your child returns their library book by Wednesday.

What Will We Be Learning Next Week

Writing– reviewing components of a sentence (capital letter at the beginning, ending punctuation, finger spaces between words).  Narrative writing- focusing on a small moment and building details around that one moment

Reading- Daily 5 begin Word Work routines, continue with Read to Self building our stamina, Work on Writing

Phonics– r-family blends (Brad, drum, grass, Fran)

Math– numbers to 120, starting at any given number being able to count on to 120

Social Studies– continue with learning about our address and being able to identify our county, state, country and continent.

August 19- 23, 2019

Thank you to those of you that have been working with your children on their Sight Words.  I am already seeing progress with their ability to read the words with fluency.  Remember if you would like me to test your child just put a note in their agenda and I will test them as soon as possible.  If for some reason you have lost the Sight Word booklet, let me know and I will get you another copy.

Don’t forget that Wednesday is our Media Center day so make sure all books are returned on or before Wednesday.

If your child will be attending any of our after school clubs please send me a note on Monday so that I am aware of which club they should be attending after school.

August 12-16, 2019

Thank you to everyone that was able to attend our Open House.  If you were not able to attend I sent home the information with your child.

Homework is starting!  As I said at Open House it should not cause stress on your child or the family.  It is meant to be easy and painless!  When your child brings home their Homework Journal they are to complete at least 15 of the activities.  In addition to completing the activities, they should be reading at least 15 minutes per night.  This includes reading to you, listening to you or even reading by themselves.  The Homework Journal should be returned on the last school day of the month.

Reading-  beginning Daily 5,  Read to Self, learning about the three different ways to read a book and building our reading stamina

Phonics– reviewing the short vowel sounds

Math– data collection and using graphs to show the information

Social Studies– what is means to be a good citizen

*Wednesday is picture day.  The information came home on Thursday and if you would like to purchase your child’s picture please send in the money on Wednesday.  All students will get their picture taken for the yearbook.

August 5- 9, 2019

We had a great first 2 days in First Grade!  The students are very eager to learn and I am very excited to have them in my class!!  We are going to have a great year.

This week will be continue to focus on Rituals and Routines of the classroom.  We will also be discussing our Behavior Expectations within the classroom and in other areas for the school.

Math– data collection and graphs

Phonics– review of short vowels

Writing– narrative writing about their summer break

*Thank you to everyone that has sent in their child’s school supplies.

*Please make sure you have returned all paperwork as soon as possible.

*We will be going to the Media Center on Wednesdays this year starting this week.  Please make sure your child has their library book in their bookbag every Wednesday so they can check out a new book.

*I hope to see everyone at Chick-Fil-A (Brookstone) on Tuesday from 5:00- 8:00 for our first PTA Spirit night.

*PTA Open House will be this Thursday (6:00- 8:00) beginning with a General Meeting and then Open House in the classrooms.

Welcome Back!!

I can not wait to meet all of my new 1st graders on Tuesday, July 30.  If your last name begins with A-L please come between 10:00- 11:00 and if your last name begins with M-Z please come between 11:00-12:00.  Please bring any school supplies to the classroom that you have purchased.

Don’t forget our First Day of School is Thursday, August 1.

Field Day is Wednesday!  We have 2 sessions 8:10- 10:25 and 11:40- 1:50.  If you would like to join us for either session please meet us outside.  Make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes.  You may want to put sunscreen on them in the morning.

Don’t forget our Mother’s Day Tea on Friday!  Please sign in at the office and then make your way down to our room.  We will begin at 1:10.  The students are very excited to have you visit!

Make sure you read the email about the last few days of school that I sent out yesterday.  It has all the details for our end of the year celebration and a few other fun things we have planned.
