Private Channels and Channel Permissions in Teams

Private Channels and Channel Permissions in Teams

Private channels and channel permissions are now available in Teams! When creating a channel, a Team owner can select Private under the privacy option. This feature allows the owner to add specific team members to that channel. Only those team members that are added to a private channel will be able to see the conversation and content in that channel. Private channels do not appear in the channel list for those who are not added to the channel.

To access channel permissions, right click on the channel and select manage channel. Currently, owners can add moderation permissions and limit who can start a new post.

In addition, Team owners can activate additional channel settings via the Team management feature. In order to make setting adjustments, click on the ellipsis (three dots) by the Team name and select Manage Team. Select Channels from the top of the pop-up window. Select channels that you want to show for just owners or all members and click on the ellipsis to access a channel email address or link. The channel’s file section will show all emails sent to the channel.
