It is almost time for the final year of the Global Read Aloud. If you have never participated in the Global Read Aloud with your students, it is not too late to start. The Global Read Aloud, which begins October 5th and runs through mid-November, is a time when people all over the world are reading the same book during the same six-week period. During that time frame teachers and students make as many global connections as possible. However, you can decide how much time you would like to dedicate to the project.
Books are divided into categories based on age group: Picture Book Study, Early Readers, Upper Elementary/Middle Grades, Middle School/Intermediate, and Young Adult. To see the book titles and reading breakdown, click here.
Teachers connect through Flipgrid, Padlet, Teams, Twitter, Facebook, and even through letter-writing using the US mail. One fun activity is to connect with other classrooms and have a Mystery Skype using Microsoft Teams and then discussing the book. This year Skype in the Classroom is partnering with the Global Read Aloud authors and offering Live Events each Friday at 1:00 pm Eastern time. You can choose the sessions you would like to participate in and click the Microsoft Teams join link. You can share the link with your students and families. If you are unable to join live, the sessions will be available on-demand.
