Lady Spartans Take 2nd Place at GHSA State Meet

2017 CHS State Track Champions

The Campbell Spartan Ladies Track & Field team just completed their most successful season ever.  The most state qualifiers in school history fought hard to a second place team finish in one of the closest and fiercest competitions the GHSA state track meet has seen.  The team was led by now four-time state champion Alexis Jones.  Alexis won the 100 meter hurdles AND the 300 meter hurdles this year and finished 2nd in the long jump by tie-breaker only, breaking a 7-year-old school record in the process.  Freshman Ashton Lindley finished a close 2nd to her teammate in the 300 meter hurdles and finished 3rd in the 400 meter dash, one of the most anticipated races in this year’s state meet as the top three finishers in that race are all ranked in the top ten NATIONALLY! Ashton also finished 4th in the long jump which is another of her many talents that will be on display for the next three years in GHSA Track & Field. Another talented Spartan, Rachel Robertson is now the state champion high jumper which was a surprise to some, but not to her coaches and teammates.  She also finished 3rd in the triple jump, breaking her own school record along the way, an intense competition of very talented ladies from CHS, McEachern and Mill Creek.  Going in to the last event of the meet, the 4×400 meter relay, the team scores were McEachern 63, Campbell 62, Westlake 61.  The lady Spartan relay team of Makylah Jones, Alexis Jones, Ashton Lindley, and Rickia Stafford fought hard to a 2nd place finish in the event, pushing them past McEachern for a 2nd place team finish, the highest finish in school history.  The other state qualifiers who made a huge impact on this season and will for a few seasons to come are Kirsten Eason, Ke’Lah Poleon, Lailah Malone, Raina Perry, Camille Trotman, and Makayla Jones.  It is a young and talented team with the only senior being Alexis Jones, a big loss for sure, but the future looks good.
