Lesson Plans October 28, 2016 thru November 4, 2016:

This week, we will continue Unit 2 ( Exponents and Equations). Monday we will introduce how to compute negative exponents. Tuesday, we will continue with negative exponents that involve multiplying and power to power exponents also. Wednesday, we will begin computing zero power exponents. Thursday is our annual DRAW (Discuss, Read, Analyze and Write) lesson. We will continue the DRAW lesson from last Thursday, that focused on computing exponents (multiplying, dividing and power to power). Friday the students will review computation of all the exponents that we have learned up to this point and take a Unit 2 Exponent Assessment which will count as a summative grade.

Students please continue to review integer computation, solving 1 and 2 step equations, plotting and identifying points on a coordinate plane, computing exponents,  cubed roots, perfect and non-perfect squares and cubed roots with and with out estimation, negative square roots, rational and irrational numbers,  along with what we have previously learned in class on a daily basis, inclusive of your homework assignments. These skills will be used throughout 8th grade in every unit.  These skills are imperative to learn in order to progress this school year!!

The Griffin Foundation is a non-profit organization formed for the sole purpose of raising funds beyond those currently provided by the Cobb County School District to fund elements of education such as technology enhancements, supplemental enriched curriculum, student services, additional faculty and capital improvements.

WHAT HAVE WE FUNDED THE PAST 3 YEARS?

• Over \$20,000 in Teacher Grants
• Repainting/refurbishing of the theater
• Printers for all of the computer labs
• Headphones for all computers
• New picnic tables for the Memorial Garden
• Created an annual Legacy Award for two students who have achieved personal growth through perseverance

• Our long-term goal is to raise enough money to fund an additional Connections teacher

Lesson Plans October 24, 2016 thru October 28, 2016:

Lesson Plans October 17, 2016 thru October 21, 2016:

We will continue Unit 2 ( Exponents and Equations.)  Monday, we will review identifying rational and irrational numbers and take a quiz on this topic and make quiz corrections. Tuesday, we will introduce exponents and focus and multiplying exponents. Wednesday all of 8th grade will be taking the PSAT Test. Thursday is our annual DRAW (Discuss, Read, Analyze and Write) lesson. The DRAW lesson will focus on rational and irrational numbers. Friday we will continue our lesson on multiplying exponents.

Conference days will take place this Monday, October 17th thru Tuesday, October 18, 2016. This week, October 17th thru October 21st will be  early release  days for all students.

Lesson Plans October 10, 2016 thru October 14, 2016:

We will continue Unit 2 ( Exponents and Equations.)  Monday, we will review estimating non-perfect squares using a number line and take a quiz on this topic and make quiz corrections. Tuesday, we will move on to estimating and finding negative square roots and Wednesday we will cover estimating cubed roots. Thursday we will spend the majority of the period reviewing estimating square roots, cubed and negative square roots, with a quiz following at the latter part of the period on these topics. Friday is our annual DRAW (Discuss, Read, Analyze and Write) lesson. The DRAW lesson will focus on rational and irrational numbers.

Curriculum night for 8th grader will take place Monday, October 10th, from 6:00pm thru 7:40pm, in which any conferences can be held at this time also, so you will not need to conference during conference week should you choose to do it on this date. Report cards will also be distributed on Monday, October 10th.  Conference days will take place Monday, October 17th thru Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
