Lesson Plans November 28,2016 thru December 2, 2016:

This week, we will complete Unit 2 ( Exponents and Equations). Monday we will review solving multi step equations introduce naming the equations. Tuesday and Wednesday we will complete and review our Unit 2 Study Guide. Thursday and Friday we will take our Unit 2 Test and make test corrections. We will not be doing our  annual DRAW (Discuss, Read, Analyze and Write) lesson this week due to the Unit 2 Test.

Students please continue to review integer computation, solving 1 and 2 step equations, plotting and identifying points on a coordinate plane, computing exponents,  cubed roots, perfect and non-perfect squares and cubed roots with and with out estimation, negative square roots, rational and irrational numbers,  converting, adjusting, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in scientific  notation along with what we have previously learned in class on a daily basis, inclusive of your homework assignments. Most of these skills will be used throughout 8th grade in every unit.  These skills are imperative to learn in order to progress this school year!!

Please check the Griffin website for all before and after school tutoring days and times and Saturday School information for students needing extra help.

Please use the websites AAAMath.com  and the website below to assist you with your learning objectives in math class.

Parents please check Parent View in Synergy at least weekly to keep up with your child’s progress in math.

WHO ARE WE?

The Griffin Foundation is a non-profit organization formed for the sole purpose of raising funds beyond those currently provided by the Cobb County School District to fund elements of education such as technology enhancements, supplemental enriched curriculum, student services, additional faculty and capital improvements.

WHAT HAVE WE FUNDED THE PAST 3 YEARS?

• Over \$20,000 in Teacher Grants
• Repainting/refurbishing of the theater
• Printers for all of the computer labs
• New picnic tables for the Memorial Garden
• Created an annual Legacy Award for two students who have achieved personal growth through perseverance

WHAT DO WE PLAN TO FUND?

• Our long-term goal is to raise enough money to fund an additional Connections teacher
• Annual Teacher Grant program

HOW DO WE RAISE MONEY?

• Capital Campaign (Fall)
• Haunted House (October)
• Student Lock – In (Spring)

HOW CAN YOU HELP OR GET INVOLVED?

• Donate to the campaign

Lesson Plans November 14, 2016 thru November 18, 2016:

This week, we will continue Unit 2 ( Exponents and Equations). Monday and Tuesday, consecutively we will introduce multiplying  and then dividing in scientific notation. Wednesday, we will do a culminating lesson that reviews exponents and scientific notation. Thursday, we will do our  annual DRAW (Discuss, Read, Analyze and Write) lesson, which focuses on adding and subtracting in scientific notation We will continue with this topic on Friday. Students will be given a Thanksgiving scientific notation review packet to work on over Thanksgiving break. The packet is due the Monday they return from break. It will count as extra credit towards their Unit 2 test.

Please remember, there is no school for students November 21-25, 2016, due to Thanksgiving break. Students will return to school on Monday, November 28, 2016.

Lesson Plans November 7, 2016 thru November 11, 2016:

This week, we will continue Unit 2 ( Exponents and Equations). Monday we will introduce scientific notation and learn how to convert scientific notation to standard notation. Wednesday, we will continue with scientific notation, converting standard notation to scientific notation. Thursday, we will review all scientific notation conversions and take a quiz on the topic. We will do our  annual DRAW (Discuss, Read, Analyze and Write) lesson, on Friday. Our DRAW lesson will focus on the introduction of adjusting scientific notation.

Please remember, there is no school for students on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, due to election day.
