Hello Cougar Nation!

We have a lot to celebrate and to be thankful for from this past week!  First, a huge high five to all of those who participated in the 26th Annual Kincaid Fun Run. We had beautiful weather and an amazing turn out!  The Fun Run is yet another example of what an amazing staff, students, families and community we have!  Thank you for supporting Kincaid Elementary through attending Teacher Conferences and by supporting our Fall Book Fair.  Also, did you know that Kincaid students collected over 7,000 box tops giving our school over $700?  THANK YOU!!!!  Second grade students submitted the most box tops and will be getting new playground equipment.  Yeah!

We are glad to be back on a regular schedule this week!  See below for a complete list of upcoming dates.  You will notice this Friday is especially busy!  Friday, October 27, is Foundation Friday!  Students can pay $2 and wear a school appropriate costume to school.  If you choose for your child to participate, please remember to follow school dress code and do not send students with masks or props.  For more family excitement, please see the information sent home from the Kincaid Foundation about the Halloween Dance from 4pm-6pm.  Students attending ASP, with your permission and donation, can attend the dance under supervision of the ASP staff.  Students coming to the dance after school, must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Also, this Friday night, our Partner in Education, Marietta Martial Arts, is offering a Parent’s Night Out for our students.  100% of the proceeds will be donated back to Kincaid!  The event runs from 6-9:30 pm.  Students will play exciting Star Wars themed games, eat pizza, and can come dressed as their favorite Star Wars character.  The you have any questions, please call Marietta Martial Arts at 770.321.1371.  REGISTER NOW by clicking here.

VISITORS:  Please remember to use the front door of the building when you visit Kincaid.  For safety, all doors are kept locked during the school day, but you can be buzzed in at the front door after identifying yourself at the camera.  It is state law that visitors sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor sticker.  On the same note, do not drop off students in the back of the school.  Doors are locked.  If a student is late, you need to park your park and walk into the building to sign in your child.  Thank you!

Kincaid Families,

Wow! Thank you for rallying last week in support of the Kincaid Foundation annual Family Investment Campaign. To date, we have earned just over $22,000! Our goal is $30,000, so please keep the donations coming!

And the winner is …. Mrs. Froy’s second grade class was the school champion with a remarkable 76% of her class families participating. Way to go!! Mrs. Froy’s class will enjoy a silly string battle and Mrs. Froy will receive a $50 Visa gift card for her classroom.

The other classroom winners are as follows: Kindergarten- Ms. Taylor; 1st grade-Ms. Lantis; 2nd grade- Ms. Froy; 3rd grade- Ms. Hitt; 4th grade- Ms. Begerow; 5th grade- Ms. McAlpine. Each grade level class winner will receive a popsicle party as a thank you from the Foundation.

While this is a great start to the year, our ultimate fundraising goal is $65,000 for the year. Here are some more ways for all of you to be involved in our school and help support our teachers, the programs of the PTA, our Science Lab and our STEM Lab:

For all who have already donated or plan to donate, please check for opportunities to double or even triple your donation through employee matching programs.

Foundation Fridays: Our first Foundation Friday is THIS Friday, Sepetmeber 1st. For $2, your student can celebrate by bringing and wearing all things Emoji. Future Foundation Friday celebrations will include Patriotic Day, Costume Day, and the beloved snowball fight with our teachers and principals.

Family Halloween Dance: A fun afternoon of costumes and dance that will provide hours of fun for the entire family! Look for details on this special day coming soon.

STEM Day: Fun-filled STEM activites led my Ms. Marchelle and Ms. Bridget to show parents all of the innovative ways our students learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts in our Foundation-funded labs.

Silent Auction and Family Dinner: An annual favorite for Kincaid Families. This year we will have an entire week to bid online for local entertainment and dining packages and some big trips, too! We will wrap up the week with our family dinner on Friday, March 2nd.

Remember, all the money the Foundation raises STAYS in Kincaid. The support of our entire school body is essential in achieving the highest level of education possible for your children at Kincaid Elementary!

I look forward to seeing you around the school this year!

Hello Cougar Nation!

The Back to School Picnic was an absolute bash!  Thank you for coming out with your children for a social evening to kick-off the school year! I want to send a special thank you to our amazing PTA and Foundation for coordinating such a fun, family event for our community!

Speaking of Foundation…thank you to all the families who have made a tax-deductible contribution to the Kincaid Foundation.  So far, about 40% of our families have contributed to this single fundraiser for the school.  Even better…some of these families work for companies that have a corporate match!  Wow!  Remember, we will not be asking students to sell wrapping paper or cookie dough. This Family Investment Campaign is our only fundraiser this year and 100% of the money goes directly to the school, funds our PTA events, and provides extra resources and opportunities to make Kincaid a step above!  If you have not made a donation yet, please consider making this investment.  If the suggested amount is too much, any donation is valued and appreciated.  Click here.

Safety First!!
Thank you for trusting us with your child each day!  We are committed to keeping all our children safe each day from the moment they walk through our doors until the moment we return them to you.  Some news and reminders:

  • Walkers – beginning this week, there will be a sign-out sheet for our walkers right in the front lobby of the school beginning at 2:05.  If you provide permission for your child to walk home alone, we will personally check them out.
  • Car Tags are Coming!! – Each family will receive a notice this week to request a Parent Pick-up Tag for the car rider lane.  If you use the car line in the afternoon, please return one request per family.  Car tags will be sent home in the next couple of weeks and will help us ensure every child is sent home with an approved adult.
  • Morning Drop Off – DO NOT drop off your child before 7:15.  The building doors are locked and there are no adults on duty for supervision.
  • Changes in Dismissal – please send in a note to your child’s teacher if there will be a change in dismissal.  We want to be absolutely accurate in where we dismiss your child each day.  A verbal from your child is not accepted.

Picture Day is this Week!

Picture Day (and Early Release Day) is on Wednesday this week.  Please return your order form and money with your child on Wednesday.

Congratulations Sprayberry
This week, Mr. Sharp, Sprayberry Principal, shared that Sprayberry was recognized by the state for its exemplary use of Advanced Placement Courses to increase the level of rigor for all students.  Sprayberry offers 21 AP courses and was recognized in the categories of AP Merit, AP STEM, AP STEM Achievement, and AP Humanities.  Way to go Sprayberry…and a huge shout out to Kincaid teachers who are working hard to prepare our students each day for their future!

Thank you for supporting our school!  Thank you for sending us your very best each day!  We are here to serve you.

Ms. Blake

Hello Kincaid Families,

Thank you to the 100+ families who have already participated in our Kincaid Family Investment Campaign!!!  This fundraising event is sponsored by the Kincaid Foundation and is Kincaid’s main fundraiser for the year.  As a parent, it is less hassle for me to make my tax-deductible donation to the Kincaid Foundation, rather than selling items to neighbors or family….and 100% of this money goes to Kincaid!  That includes supporting our PTA, completely funding a Science Lab teacher and supporting technology and STEM innovative practices.  Wow!  This really helps take Kincaid to the next level for our students!

Our goal is to have 100% participation from every family at Kincaid.  There is a suggested donation per student or family, but even if you can just donate $1, $5 or $20….that will help us meet our goal of 100% of our families invested in Kincaid this year.  With any donation, your child will receive free ear buds and your family name will be displayed on the wall in the café.  Thank you in advance for supporting Kincaid!  Let’s do this!

The Eclipse – Just a reminder that Monday, August 21st, we will have a delayed dismissal by 45 minutes.  Please expect your child to be dismissed/arrive home 45 minutes later than the regular time.  All of our kindergarten through second grade students will remain in their classrooms and will watch a live streaming of the eclipse broadcasted from Kennesaw Mountain High School.  Students without permission slips to be outside will gather together with teachers to watch the live streaming in the media center.  Students with signed permission slips will be outside from 1:45 – 2:45 experience the eclipse with the appropriate glasses and any pinhole viewers under the guidance of Ms. Marchelle and the supervision of their teachers.

Absences on Monday, August 21st – all absences will be consider excused if the parent writes a note.

Early Checkout on Monday, August – students are considered present if they are in school until 11:15.  Please complete all early checkouts by 1:30. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will take home their eclipse glasses with them.

Thank you for supporting Cougar Nation!
Ms. Blake
