School Counselor Role

School counselors wear many hats, but here is a break down of how counselors support their students. School counselors provide services for all students in their school buildings in a variety of ways. Overall, I am able to serve students in academic, career, and social/emotional areas. As a counselor I am able to serve students directly and indirectly.

Direct Services:

  • Individual Student Planning
    • Assist students with developing personal, future plans, and goals.
  • Core Curriculum (Classroom Lessons)
    • Structured lessons designed to help all students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level.
  • Responsive Services
    • Individual or small group counseling
    • Crisis response

Indirect Services:

  • Referrals
  • Consultation
  • Collaboration with parents, teachers, community organizers, and/or other educators.
