Donuts and Donations


to benefit Jenny Lane

WHERE:  Blackwell Elementary School cafeteria

WHEN: This Saturday, December 16th, 8:00am-10:00aWHY:  Jenny Lane, sister of Blackwell’s Teacher of the Year, 3rd grade teacher Liz Chandler, was injured in a horrible accident this past weekend.  While out walking in the snow with her husband and son, a tree branch fell on her, hitting her in the head and severing her spinal column, which has caused permanent paralysis. Jenny has a long road to recovery, and she and her family need any and all help from Blackwell and its surrounding communities.

Individual donuts and donuts by the dozen will be available for a minimum donation.  Additional donations are also welcome.  Please consider stopping by the school, enjoying a donut (or two), and making a donation.

Typing Practice

All fifth graders will take Georgia Milestones online (instead of paper and pencil) in the spring. We will be practicing typing at school, but any keyboard practice you can do at home will be beneficial. Links for practice can be found in the Language Arts page.

R.I.S.E Night November 2

Please come to R.I.S.E. Night (Raising Individual Student Expectations) next Thursday, November 2 from 6:00-6:45 you have the opportunity to work with me to write a SMART goal for your child to help them master multiplication or division fact fluency.

You can bring your children to watch a movie with Ms. Wacker while we look at class data, write goals, and practice some activities that you can use at home. We will be giving you cards and dice to use with the activities. Your child brought home an invitation today if you did not already RSVP during conferences.

 I hope you can join us! It will be a valuable use of your time as we work together to raise your child’s fact fluency.

No Place For Hate Week October 23-27

Monday : Wear No Place For Hate colors of black and yellow

Tuesday: Wear your house colors:  Spike-gold, Max-purple, Blackwell-blue, Bulldog-black/silver

Wednesday: Dress up as your favorite super hero, or community helper hero

Thursday: Shirts with positive message

Friday: Diversity Day: Bring something to share about your heritage/culture

Picture Retakes

Picture Retake day is Tuesday, October 10.

Picture retakes are intended for students who were absent on the original picture day (August 24th), new to Blackwell since August 24th, or those unhappy with their picture/proof from the original day. Please return the pictures you received earlier this week if you would like a retake.

Science Olympiad Tryouts


Science Olympiad Tryouts will be next Monday, October 9, 2017 from 2:30-3:30.

Get permission slips from me and turned in by Friday, October 6. You can get a copy of the form in my Forms Page.

Practices will be Mondays from 2:30-3:45 starting October 30. Competition will be March 24, 2018.
