Wednesday, November 15th

Today the students continued to practice Combining Like Terms from Monday, and then began to practice skills to prepare for their quiz on Friday over order of operations, translating expressions, evaluating expressions, exponents and combining like terms.

Tuesday, November 14th

Today the students received a review packet for evaluating expressions and order of operations. The students will have a quiz on Friday assessing evaluating expressions, order of operations, exponents, translating expressions and combining like terms.

Monday, November 13th

Today the students began Combining Like Terms. We took notes in our Math Notebook and revisited the definition of Like Terms and how to simplify expressions by combining terms that are alike. I have provided a few tutorial videos as well as some online practice for your student to continue to practice this standard.

Friday, November 10th

Today the students began to discuss Evaluating Expressions. The students received notes to glue into their notebooks and then practiced Evaluating Expressions by plugging in numbers for variables. The students received dice to roll with their partners which would give the students the number for the variable to use in the expressions. I have provided tutorial links below on how to evaluate expressions, as well as some online practice.

Wednesday, November 8th

Today the students reviewed the homework given on Monday on exponents, and we cleared up misconceptions. Then we began discussing Order of Operations with notes to glue into their notebooks followed by a practice worksheet that will allow them additional practice with this concept. I am providing the link to the Math Antics website below in order for your student to revisit the video to help them with any questions they still may have. I will also provide some online practice for the students to continue to master this skill.

Monday, November 6th

Today the students practiced exponents. The students watched Math Antics to open the topic of conversation. They received a handout to glue into their math notebooks, and then received practice worksheets to help solidify their understanding. I have provided the link to the Math Antics below. The students are to complete the handout for homework.

Thursday, November 2nd

Today the students received a handout for additional practice of translating and writing expressions. The students were practicing how to define a variable and write expressions from word problems. There will be a quiz over this and our Unit 3 Vocabulary this Friday, November 3rd.

I have provided some tutorial and practice links below.

Wednesday, November 1st

Today the students matched the written expression with the algebraic expressions, to practice the standard of translating expressions. The students worked in groups to match and practice their understanding of the concept.

Then the students received a handout to practice translating expressions individually.

Tuesday, October 31st

Today the students began discussing Translating and Writing Algebraic Expressions. The students started with a handout to glue into their math notebooks, which included them brainstorming and writing down key words for each math operation. I have added some key words to the right.

The students also created Algebraic Expression Foldables to help them translate algebraic expressions. We will continue to practice this standard Wednesday and Thursday.
