Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class after the warm-up, we discussed the first set of vocabulary words that you will be tested over from our novel. You were given a graphic organizer with the words and space to write the definitions, page numbers, and you should have included part of speech. We will write the sentence from the book as we come to it in our reading.
HW 1, 3, 5: None
Blocks 2, 4: Today in class those of you who needed to finish your vocabulary test had time to do so, while others finished the comprehension questions for chapter 3. There were a few in each class who had already completed reading through chapter 4, so those students worked together to annotate the chapter for characterization and figurative language. They will be our “experts” as we come to these things in the next chapters.
HW 2, 4: None
Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we again reviewed roots/prefixes/suffixes. You received your test back from Friday with the opportunity to make corrections for 3 point per correction. These are due tomorrow. Remember to leave your original answer and write your correction in pen. Then we completed an anticipation guide for our novel, wrote a prediction based on the cover, and started reading an article about the author. You must write a summary about the article on the handout you were given.
HW 1, 3, 5: Test corrections, finish summary
Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you took your vocabulary test over the first set of words. Then some of you had time to finish reading chapter 3.
HW 2, 4: None
A big shout out to my wonderful students who behaved admirably and got their work done last week while I was out! You have made me happy 🙂

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class after the warm-up, we continued discussing active reading. We read the story “Black Holes” and completed a graphic organizer together so you could see how to “think through” a reading selection. Tomorrow you will be choosing one of three stories to complete on your own using the graphic organizer like we used today. Remember to study your vocabulary of vocabulary notes AND your understanding word parts notes for Friday’s test.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class after your warm up, I went over exactly what you needed to study for Friday’s test. You have your two notes handouts and should have highlighted/starred the following information: connotation, denotation, synonyms, antonyms, root, prefix, and suffix. Then we practiced separating words into their parts – root, prefix, suffix. This will be on the test Friday. Then we took notes on the reading process and started reading a story to practice the steps. We will finish our story tomorrow.

Your test over the first set of vocabulary words (first 14 words) has been postponed until Tuesday of next week.

We also reviewed what you will need to know for tomorrow’s test over the vocabulary notes. I read you every question that will be on the test and you had a chance to highlight or make notes on your handouts.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class you took your quiz over the study skills notes and then worked on graphing/analyzing how you spent your time for the last two days. Block 5, we decided to let you “predict” how your afternoon and evening would go tonight so that you would not have homework to complete. However, anyone who did NOT get their graphs complete and turned in do need to finish them tonight.
HW 1, 3, 5: Finish your graphs, if needed
