Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we read chapter 16 in our novel in character parts. We encountered a major plot twist in this chapter! We will continue reading our novel tomorrow in class.

HW 1, 3, 5: None

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class we began our presentations of the public service announcements. Despite some early technical glitches, the presentations we saw were very well done! We discussed each PSA after it was presented – for “glows” and “grows” because evaluating content and quality of information presented is extremely important for you as a critical reader/thinker to evaluate material that you read/see/hear. We will continue with these presentations tomorrow.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class you had time to complete your water pollution web quest. If you did not finish it in class today, it is now homework. Please check back on my blog for the entry titled Water Pollution Webquest to find the links you need to complete your assignment.

HW 1, 3, 5: finish webquest if needed

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you finalized your PSA presentations. We will begin presenting tomorrow. I hope each group signed up for the time slot they wanted 🙂

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today after our warm up (review of main idea), you worked on computers to complete a water pollution webquest. Our novel that we are reading in class revolves around the efforts of one of the characters to stop water pollution. By reading the informational articles today, you should have found out some solutions to the water pollution problem, some causes and effects of water pollution, and some famous incidents of water pollution. We will finish/discuss the webquest tomorrow in class – remember, you should be formulating a response to the question “Why would the author of our novel base an entire book around this issue?”

HW 1, 3, 5: None

Blocks 2, 4: Today we were in the media center so that you could continue working with your groups on your public service announcements. Tomorrow will be the last day we work on these and we will start presenting in class on Thursday.

HW 2, 4: None

Today marks the beginning of the second nine weeks’ grading period. There will be a few changes this nine weeks. First, all students received a new schedule today showing their new connections classes. Some students got a schedule change for academics…those were minimal and have been addressed.

Beginning today all students will pack up their backpacks prior to going to connections. They will take their belongings with them when they go to the connections hallway. This will eliminate some of the doubling back and stress the students are experiencing at the end of the day.

IMPORTANT GRADING WEIGHT CHANGE: SINCE WE HAVE GONE BACK TO A QUARTER SYSTEM FROM A SEMESTER SYSTEM, I NEED TO ADJUST THE CATEGORIES USED FOR GRADING IN ALL READING CLASSES. THE NEW CATEGORIES AND WEIGHTS ARE AS FOLLOWS –

FORMATIVE (CLASSWORK/QUIZZES) = 40%

SUMMATIVE (TESTS/PERFORMANCE TASKS) = 60%

THIS DOES NOT CHANGE THE WEIGHTS AS THEY STOOD LAST NINE WEEKS; IT’S JUST THAT THE TESTS/PERFORMANCE TASKS CATEGORIES HAVE BEEN COMBINED INTO ONE.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: today in class we were in the media center to checkout new pleasure reading books and then we read chapter 15 in our novel in character parts.

HW 1, 3, 5: None

Blocks 2, 4: today in class we were in the media center to checkout new pleasure reading books. You then worked with your groups to create/finalize your PSA for your subgroup of hunger. We will be presenting our PSAs in class starting on Thursday.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class you turned in your warm up, then took your vocabulary set 2 test. Afterwards, you had time to make corrections on your chapter 14 comprehension questions and finish your graphic organizer for the water pollution article you read yesterday. Today was the last day of the grading period so anything you have not turned in or corrected at this point will remain the grade that it is.

HW 1, 3, 5: None

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you had time to continue reading chapters 10-14 and updating your FB posts. Anyone who had missing/late assignments had the opportunity today to get the work done and turned in. Anything that I have not gotten by home room Monday cannot be changed in the grade book.

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class we started reading chapters 10-14 in our novel and created a “fakebook” page for one of the characters with “posts” at the end of each chapter. We will be transferring the paper template to a digital format next week so that you can read each others’ posts and respond.

HW 2, 4: None
