Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we reviewed our notes on point of view, then practiced reading some passages together to determine the POV.

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class we reviewed our notes on point of view, then read “The Sniper” and annotated evidence that proved it was written in third person limited. You had an opportunity to share the evidence you found with your table groups and then we shared as a whole class.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we started warm-ups focusing on context clues. Then we began discussing point of view and you completed a notes organizer about the types of POV.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class you were in the media center to check out a book. You should have copied the vocabulary in context slide for your reference; we will be focusing on context clues as our warm-ups for the next several days. If you did not get it copied, I have attached it here for you. vocabulary-in-context You also had time to finish any incomplete work from the week before the break. If you did not finish in class, it is homework.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we continued watching the video for our novel and taking notes on the selected scenes.

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you started reading one of two different novels. We will be starting a unit on civil disobedience after Thanksgiving and will use each of these novels as a springboard for this unit.

Monday, 11.14.16

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class you completed your rising action events on your plot diagram for the warm up, then you took the quarter 2 touchstone mini #1. Then we began watching the video, Hoot, so that you can compare/contrast how the author presented the information in the book versus how it was portrayed on the screen. You will have a total of seven scenes to compare/contrast for your final essay about the novel.

HW 1, 3, 5: None

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you took the quarter 2 touchstone mini #1, then continued working with your partner/group on our “around the room” discussions. We will finish our whole group discussion by Wednesday of this week and you will have a final test (no stress test) over The Hunger Games on Thursday.

Happy Veterans’ Day! I want to thank each and every person I know, and don’t know, for their service to our country. Freedom is not free. It was paid for with the sacrifices made by hundreds of our service men and women.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we finished presenting our book-in-a-week. We also continued working on our plot element warm ups. Several of you were called up individually to discuss any missing assignments. Progress reports come out next week, so if you have something missing, please get it finished and turned in for a grade.

HW 1, 3, 5: None, unless you have missing work to complete

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you had time to finish your change and growth from part 3 and your review from our novel. Then we started discussing (in partners or groups of 3) the questions posted around the room. We will finish small group discussions on Monday and then start our whole class discussions.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we started warm-ups on plot. You wrote the parts of plot that fit the definitions you were given. Then we started the presentations of your assigned chapters for our book in a week unit. Remember to study for your Elements of a Story quiz that is tomorrow.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we worked on identifying the elements of a well-known story as our warm-up. Then you worked with your groups to finish your visualized scenes and summarized points for your assigned chapters in the novel. Presentations start Wednesday.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class we checked our 5 elements of a story warm-ups and you had an opportunity to make sure you made any needed corrections since this warm-up packet is your study guide for the quiz over story elements next Thursday. Then you worked with your groups to finish your summaries/details about the chapters you read. Monday you will need to create the scene that stood out the most to your group in the assigned chapters.

Blocks 2, 4: Today in class you had a chance to finish up any work, read chapters 23-24 independently, and some of you had a chance to work on some brainteasers.

Blocks 1, 3, 5: Today in class you continued working on your skills warm ups about the elements of a story. We are going to check and grade these in class tomorrow so that you can keep them as a study guide for next week’s test over story elements. Afterwards, you worked with your group to finish reading your assigned chapters and take notes. Some groups were able to start discussing their chapters and figure out the most important events to share.
