6th Grade Social Studies -We finished the timeline organizer covering the events that led up to World War II and the organizer on leadership in Germany after WWI. Students completed an exit ticket over the events that led up to World War II. Students now have all of the answers for the Conflicts in Europe crossword puzzle also. 

NO HOMEWORK! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

7th Grade Social Studies had Cultural Extension today for Southwest Asia. I have some truly talented students.

The food is being catered by The Jerusalem Bakery on 1175 Franklin Gateway, Marietta 30067. We will serve hummus, pita, and chicken shawarma. The bakery is halal. Due to Performing Arts today, I only had three class periods: first, second and third. 

6th Grade Social Studies – 2nd and 3rd period only (no 7th) completed the daily SRA and students received the Major Developments in Europe after World War I graphic organizer. We started corresponding power point notes today, but we will have to finish them tomorrow. We discussed the Russian Revolution, the Treaty of Versailles and the Great Depression. 

HOMEWORK: STUDENTS SHOULD UPDATE THEIR CONFLICTS IN EUROPE CROSSWORD

7th Grade Social Studies – 1st period only (no 4th) completed the daily SRA and students finished the Carousel Walk for the governments of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Students were given a Venn diagram to complete comparing and contrasting the three governments and if they did not finish it in class, they should finish it for homework. 

HOMEWORK: 1ST PERIOD ONLY -IF STUDENTS DID NOT FINISH THEIR COMPARE AND CONTRAST VENN DIAGRAM ON THE GOVERNMENTS OF ISRAEL, SAUDI ARABIA, AND TURKEY, THEY SHOULD FINISH IT FOR HOMEWORK. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD START TO STUDY AND MEMORIZE THE GOVERNMENT TERMS AND DEFINITIONS TO BE READY FOR THE QUIZ THAT WILL OCCUR ON TUESDAY AFTER THE BREAK. 6th Grade Social Studies – We discussed the Treaty of Versailles and viewed two short video clips that corresponded to it. Students worked in collaborative groups to complete a Frayer diagram about the Treaty of Versailles and how it impacted Germany. 

HOMEWORK: STUDENTS SHOULD CONTINUE TO UPDATE THEIR CONFLICTS IN EUROPE CROSSWORD. 

7th Grade Social Studies – We started governments of SWA today. Students reviewed government types with an Anticipation Guide, and then started a carousel walk with the SWA Governments graphic organizer. The three governments they are studying are Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. 

HOMEWORK: REVIEW GOVERNMENT TERMS AND DEFINITIONS.

6th Grade Social Studies – Students finished writing their DBQ Essays and submitted them today. All students were given a Conflict in Europe vocabulary crossword, along with reading through pages 160-165 in the textbook. 

HOMEWORK: STUDENTS SHOULD TRY TO COMPLETE 5-6 ANSWERS ON THE CROSSWORD. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FINISHED TONIGHT.

7th Grade Social Studies – Students reviewed the Modern Conflicts in SWA before taking the checkpoint over Modern Conflicts in SWA.

6th Grade Social Studies – SS6H3 – Describe the aftermath of WWI: the Rise of Communism, the Treaty of Versailles, the worldwide Great Depression and the Rise of Nazism (including Prejudices, Propaganda, and the Holocaust). 

This week students will finish writing their DBQ Essay (Monday). Students will move through a Station Rotation on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday which addresses the rise of Communism, the Treaty of Versailles, the Great Depression and its impact worldwide, and the Rise of Nazism. The first round of the Geography Bee will be held on Friday. Wednesday of this week is Performing Arts, and all sixth grade students will miss seventh period. If students have not submitted their Performing Arts Permission Form, they should do so ASAP. No donations are required.

7th Grade Social Studies – 

SS7CG3 –  Compare and contrast various forms of government. a. Explain citizen participation in autocratic and democratic governments [i.e., the role of citizens in choosing the leaders of Israel (parliamentary democracy), Saudi Arabia (autocratic monarchy), and Turkey (parliamentary democracy)]. b. Describe the two predominant forms of democratic governments: parliamentary and presidential.

This week we have a formative assessment over Modern Conflicts in SWA on Monday. We will begin Government in SWA on Tuesday and Wednesday (1st period only) by reviewing Presidential and Parliamentary Democracy and if time remains, begin comparing governments of the countries listed in the standard.  Wednesday of this week is performing arts, so students will not see their fourth period class. If you have not sent in your permission form, please bring that in ASAP (donations are NOT required).  The first round of the Geography Bee will be held on Thursday and our first Cultural Extension of the year will be Friday.

6th Grade Social Studies – Students took the DRQ documents quiz and continued working on their DBQ essay. Monday will be the last day for the essays.

7th Grade Social Studies – Students worked in collaborative pairs to complete both Part 1 and 2 of the Modern Conflicts Review.

HOMEWORK: IF STUDENTS DID NOT FINISH EITHER OF THE MODERN CONFLICT REVIEW SHEETS, THEY SHOULD FINISH THEM FOR HOMEWORK AND STUDY THEM TO BE READY FOR THE CHECKPOINT ON MONDAY. STUDENTS SHOULD REREAD THE MODERN CONFLICTS ARTICLE ALSO.

6th Grade Social Studies – We reviewed the RACES writing strategy for our SRA today. We We checked the Causes of WWI Crossword. Here are the answers.

Students worked on their DBQ Pre-Writing organizer, being sure to use their DBQ packet for sources and information. If students are missing any answers to DBQ packet questions, here are all of the answers. DBQ-Background-Essay-Questions-Answered2017-1zpzhrs-21qlos6  

While a few students started writing their essay final draft today, most did not. Therefore, we will be writing tomorrow in class.

HOMEWORK: STUDENTS SHOULD REVIEW THEIR DBQ PACKET AND VOCABULARY FROM THE CROSSWORD PUZZLE TO BE READY FOR THE DBQ DOCUMENTS QUIZ TOMORROW. 

7th Grade Social Studies – After completing the SRA, students finished the SWA Modern Conflicts graphic organizer and received the SWA Modern Conflicts True or False statements. They will continue working on these tomorrow in class. Students who wanted to retake the SWA History Part 1 Test did so as well. 

Cultural Extension Movie Opt-Out Letter – All 7th grade students received an opt-out letter that they should give to their parents. If parents do not want their child to view He Named Me Malala, the form should be signed and returned by Tuesday, November 14th. Nothing needs to be returned if parents are alright with their child viewing the movie. 

HOMEWORK: STUDENTS SHOULD STUDY THE MODERN CONFLICTS ORGANIZER AND ARTICLE TO BE READY FOR THE CHECKPOINT ON MONDAY.

6th Grade Social Studies – Students received the DBQ Rubric and the DBQ Pre-writing organizer. They started their pre-writing in class and will finish it tomorrow and start their final DBQ essay at that time.

6th Grade Social Studies – Students finished analyzing the last two documents in the DBQ packet, and finished the second half of the Causes of WWI crossword puzzle.

HOMEWORK: IF STUDENTS DID NOT FINISH THE CROSSWORD PUZZLE IN CLASS, THEY SHOULD FINISH IT FOR HOMEWORK. STUDENTS SHOULD REVIEW THEIR DBQ PACKET AND DECIDE WHAT THEY THINK CAUSED WORLD WAR I. THE CHOICES ARE IMPERIALISM, MILITARISM, OR ALLIANCES. STUDENTS SHOULD START THINKING ABOUT WHAT EVIDENCE THEY WANT TO USE FROM THE DBQ PACKET IN THE ESSAY THEY WILL WRITE LATER THIS WEEK.

7th Grade Social Studies – Students took the Middle East History Part 1 Test today.
