Journal #14

LANGUAGE ARTS

Today in class…

After you wrote Journal entry #14, we watched a short video to illustrate the concept of “showing” not “telling” in your writing.

Then we looked at examples of “showing sentences” and you worked with a partner to write some together.

Tonight for homework…

Choose 4 of the telling sentences on the list you were given in class to rewrite as showing sentences. Remember that it is ok if you need two-3 sentences to “show” instead of “tell.

Journal #12 – Rewrite a scene from the story in the first person perspective of one of the ants.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Today in class…

After Journal #12, we discussed the characteristics of a personal narrative essay. We discussed the importance of choosing a manageable topic (writing about a 7 day vacation is TOO BIG, but writing about one experience on that vacation, like swimming with dolphins – would be more manageable).

Then you made a chart to help list topics that you could consider for your personal narrative. Then you developed 2 or 3 of those topics a bit more to decide which would be the best choice.

There is no homework tonight.

Today in class…
