Language Arts

In Language Arts, we have been researching for a few days to find evidence to support argumentative claims.  Then today we worked on aligning the evidence with the reasons for the claim.  Some students found that they didn’t have the evidence needed to support their reasons. For example… One student’s claim was that there should be no zoos.  Her reasons were that they mistreated the animals and that animals don’t live as long in zoos.  She found plenty of evidence to support her first reason, but none to support her second.  So she needs to either adjust her reason or do further research to find supportive evidence.

MANY students handed theirs in today, so if your son/daughter tells you that they are done, they may well be! I just wanted to give you a heads up in case their explanation of what they need to get done tonight is unclear.  We used the Opposing Viewpoints database in Cobb Digital Library. Here at school, as a general rule, we avoid open google searches.  However, as long as they write their source (and look to make sure it is a reliable source) they can search for the information in whatever way will be the quickest and easiest.
