YOU NEED A PLAIN WHITE POSTER BY FRIDAY!!! Fold it in half one time, put your name on it and bring it to my classroom. I will hold it for you until we are ready to use it.

You received the first two components for our mini research unit. Winter Holiday mini Research Unit & research organizer . We used a lottery format for you to choose your country from the 6th grade Social Studies curriculum.  We will continue research tomorrow and Wednesday.

Journal #34 – “Horribly sad things happen in the world every day. Write about something positive that you have don’t for someone else or that they have done for you.”

After your journal, we watched a Flocabulary video about commas.  Then you took notes specifically about proper use of commas in compound sentences.

You chose your topic for Journal #31. Then we checked and discussed the sentence type practice that you worked on yesterday. We will continue to review and practice tomorrow so that you will be ready for a quiz on Friday.
Tonight for homework…

For the quiz on Friday, you will need to:

  • know the difference between dependent and independent clauses (remember dependent clauses always begin with subordinating conjunctions) – to remember subordinating conjunctions, use the mnemonic  device “on the white bus” http://www.pkwy.k12.mo.us/homepage/llipkind/File/subordinating_conjunctions.pdf
  • know how many of each type of clauses make up simple, compound, and complex sentences
  • identify sentences as simple, compound, or complex
  • write each type of sentence

READING

We read chapter 20 in the Hunger Games. Block 5, you had a few minutes to continue your group discussion questions. If you didn’t finish in class, work with your partners in homeroom to finish them up.
