Today in Reading…

We read chapter 3 in character parts.  I hope you love reading it this way as much as I do! It brings the story to life!! We continued to discuss characterization.

You responded to two questions about the events of the chapter, and then you added sentences from the book to your vocabulary organizer.

There is no homework tonight. HOWEVER, You will have a test over the 10 vocabulary terms on Tuesday, September 5.  So id you work on two words a day, it should keep you from being overwhelmed the night before the test.

Today in Language Arts…

You finished the reading check questions that you answered yesterday after your first independent reading of “Flipped”.  Then you learned about intensive and reflexive pronouns so that you could look for them in the story while we did a “second read” aloud.

We read chapter two and discussed the first bit of symbolism (the dandelion).

Today in Language Arts…

We started Activity 1.5, “Flipped”.  You read the story silently and most had time to answer the 4 reading check questions as well. If you didn’t finish and turn in the questions today, you will have a few minutes to finish at the start of class tomorrow.

Today in Reading…

You finished your comprehension questions from chapter 1 of HG. Then we had a lesson with Mrs. Baker in the media center, and you had a chance to check out a pleasure reading book.

You finished writing a retelling of a story very familiar to you. You then shared your story with a partner and they identified the following narrative traits in your retelling: characterization, setting, conflict, and dialogue.  You then had about 5 minutes to ready our pleasure reading book or freewrite.

Each group shared their top 5 “takeaways” from the study skills article that they read. Then we reviewed what will be on tomorrow’s quiz: internal/external obstacles, study strategies, learning styles, setting priorities… There will be five short answer questions.

Today in Reading…

We continued to discuss ways to set yourself up for success in regards to study habits.  You then read an article about a variety of study strategies.  You and your partners discussed the five most important/useful/share-worthy things that you read in your article.  On Monday, you will share with the class what you assigned article taught you.

There is a quiz on Tuesday over organization, study habits, and setting priorities.
