Today in Reading…

We finished “A Place at the Table”.  I hope that you feel like you have a solid foundation of understanding of the issue, so that when we return in October you will be ready for a more in depth study.

We practiced working with vivid verbs. You were assigned a children’s story in which you highlighted the verbs and replaced them with more precise, vivid verbs.

You took your HG Part 1 Test. Then you (hopefully) finished your analysis of Katniss.

Today in Language Arts…

We continued with “The Jacket”.  You and your partners finished reading and looking for examples of figurative language in the story. Then we discussed which types of figurative language they were examples of.

Today in Reading… 

You finished Part 1 of “The Hunger Games.” Then you worked on analyzing Katniss Everdeen.  She has already changed a great deal in the story. We will continue this assignment in class tomorrow.

Several of you finished your tests from yesterday. Then you learned the new vocabulary words for the rest of Hunger Games Part 1.

You learned about symbolism in literature and in the world around us.  There were notes, so if you were out, be sure to get them from a classmate. Then you finished reading chapter 5 before we checked out books in the media center.
