Monthly Archives: February 2018

Week of February 26, 2018

This week in Reading…

We started the week with the Cobb County Touchstone. From there we will really dig in to Unbroken. We will likely read through chapter 7.

You will have a test on Wednesday over Part 1 vocabulary terms, and then you will learn the new terms for Part 2.

We will explore and analyze primary documents from the book.

This week for homework…

Study vocabulary and finish any unfinished classwork.

This week in Language Arts…

You will compare and contrast the two main characters in Walk Two Moons. You’ll likely read through chapter 14. We will learn about noun and pronoun agreement and then apply what we learn to a paragraph comparing and contrasting Phoebe and Sal.

There will likely not be homework this week, unless you don’t finish what we have worked on in class.

Week of February 12, 2018

This week in READING….

You will finish and submit your research papers tomorrow by the end of class (unless you had an extended absence, of course).  We will take tomorrow to proofread, edit, and make sure formatting is correct.

Then Wednesday through Friday we will be jumping into Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand. Remember that while it is not a requirement to purchase the book, it is definitely helpful to have your own copy.  We’ll be learning about the author, previewing Part 1 vocabulary terms, and reading through chapter 4.

The only homework for the week is to begin studying the new vocabulary terms.

This week in LANGUAGE ARTS…

On Monday we practiced writing a response to literature paragraph about the lyrics to the song, “This is Me”.  On Tuesday we will begin a novel study of  Walk Two Moons. You will learn how to write responses in a “Double Entry Journal”.

There should not be any homework this week.

Week of February 5, 2018

This week in Reading…

You will finish your research paper body paragraphs, introduction and conclusion paragraphs, revise, proofread, and (hopefully) finalize and submit) your paper by Friday.

This week for homework…

You will need to finish your introduction and conclusion paragraphs at home on Wednesday night and may need to finish final revisions over the weekend.

This week in Language Arts…

You are learning about internal and external forces in conflict. We will finish Activity 2.2 and 2.3.

Don’t forget, if you are able to purchase a copy of Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, that would be great.  I will have copies of the novel in class for any student who does not have their own copy.  The book is available through Amazon for $5.96.

You will (most likely) not have any homework this week.  If it turns out that you do, I will re-post the blog.
