Don’t forget that the 6th grade dance is on Friday!  Glow Back to the 80’s!!! It’ll be a blast.

This week in Reading…

You are finishing your research outline on Tuesday, and then we will move on to writing the body paragraphs of your research paper. We will work on body paragraphs Tuesday and Wednesday, then move on to introduction and conclusion paragraphs at the end of the week.

This week for homework…

You may need to finish classwork if you fall behind in class.


This week in Language Arts…

On Monday you finished your short story.  For homework Monday night, you will need to finish your story and plot diagram. They will be collected at the start of class on Tuesday.

On Tuesday we will begin Unit 2 in Springboard.

There will be no homework after Monday.

This week in Reading… 

You are taking research notes, organizing the notes, and creating a formal research outline. Remember to limit your research to sources that can be accessed through the Cobb Digital Library.

On Wednesday you will have a test over the Research Vocabulary terms.

For homework this week… 

Study for the test Wednesday and finish notes if you are unable to finish in class. 


This week in Language Arts… 

You are drafting and revising “Embedded Assessment #2” – the short story.

Finish your first draft on Tuesday night if you haven’t finished in class.

We are beginning our research paper unit.  You learned new research-specific vocabulary and took an in-depth look at what is and what is not plagiarism.

This week for homework…

Begin studying the vocabulary terms you received on Tuesday.

This week in Language Arts…

We are having our class spelling bees to determine who will represent Mrs. Dean’s classes in the school spelling bee.

You will read and analyze the Ray Bradbury short story, “The Veldt”.

We will begin Embedded Assessment #2, writing a short story.

Parents, please check with your son/daughter to see if they have pencils and paper.  It seems we have reached that time of year when supplies have run out!

This week in Reading…

We have continued to learn new vocabulary terms. At this point you have all 18 terms that you will need to know for your test next Thursday (12.14).

You have also continued your independent Historical Fiction Novel Study. I have collected your first set of 4 response questions, I will collect the next 4 at the start of class on Monday and the final 4 on December 15.

You received the rubric for your presentation which will be due on December 18.  We will continue to use class time to work on your responses and prepare for your presentations. We will have computers access each day next week.

Tonight for homework…

Begin reviewing your vocabulary words for the test next week.

This week in Language Arts…

You finished up your Nemo plot diagrams on Monday.  We are continuing to work with the elements of plot through the stories “Eleven” and “The Treasure of Lemon Brown”. You re-wrote the rising action of “Eleven” to change the conflict from internal to external, and to include dialogue and figurative language.

Wednesday night for homework…

Finish your “Eleven” re-write if you did not finish it in class.

There is no homework the rest of the week.

Week of November 28, 2017

This week in Reading…

You will select a historical fiction novel for an independent novel study.  You received the information for your presentation about the novel which will be due on December 18.

You will also take the ELA Touchstone.

I will be out on Thursday and Friday (in Savannah with the Beta Club).

This week in Language Arts…

You will read the Greek Myth, Daedalus and Icarus, and focus on deepening your understanding of the parts of plot.  We will review plot diagrams, and you will complete a plot diagram of your own for a story.

You began your final Hunger Games performance task.  You will have the rest of the week to work on your selected project in class and it will be due at the end of class on Friday.
