Today in Language Arts…

We continued with “The Jacket”.  You and your partners finished reading and looking for examples of figurative language in the story. Then we discussed which types of figurative language they were examples of.

You finished Part 1 of “The Hunger Games.” Then you worked on analyzing Katniss Everdeen.  She has already changed a great deal in the story. We will continue this assignment in class tomorrow.

You learned about symbolism in literature and in the world around us.  There were notes, so if you were out, be sure to get them from a classmate. Then you finished reading chapter 5 before we checked out books in the media center.

Today in Reading…

We read chapter 3 in character parts.  I hope you love reading it this way as much as I do! It brings the story to life!! We continued to discuss characterization.

You responded to two questions about the events of the chapter, and then you added sentences from the book to your vocabulary organizer.

There is no homework tonight. HOWEVER, You will have a test over the 10 vocabulary terms on Tuesday, September 5.  So id you work on two words a day, it should keep you from being overwhelmed the night before the test.

Today in Language Arts…

You finished the reading check questions that you answered yesterday after your first independent reading of “Flipped”.  Then you learned about intensive and reflexive pronouns so that you could look for them in the story while we did a “second read” aloud.

We started Activity 1.5, “Flipped”.  You read the story silently and most had time to answer the 4 reading check questions as well. If you didn’t finish and turn in the questions today, you will have a few minutes to finish at the start of class tomorrow.
