Students finished up the Radioactive Dating content and completed a hands-on activity that demonstrated half-life.

January 17th

Students continued with learning about the dating of rocks and fossils.  We have moved on to learning about Absolute Dating and will be completing a hands-on activity about this type of dating tomorrow.

January 16th

Students completed a Relative Dating of Rock layers lab in class today.  They also began working on their Remediation/Extension homework on the Earth’s Layers.

Important Date: Unit 5 Earth’s Layers/Fossils test will be on Friday, January 25th.  Students have the information on Earth’s Layers and Relative Dating to begin preparing for the test.

January 15th

Students watched a video clip on Continental Drift today to help explain any questions they may have had.  We discussed the Pangaea puzzle and students were able to touch a Mesosaurus jaw bone fossils that I have.

Students then began a “Finding Clues in Rock Layers” lab.  What was not completed in class is homework.

Homework: complete “Finding Clues in Rock Layers” lab.  Due at beginning of class.

January 14th

Students began working on the Relative Dating of Fossils.

January 11th

Students completed an Earth’s Layers Ticket in the Door to check for comprehension of the content.  Students will receive their remediation or extension activity based on their score on Monday.  Students then worked on a Pangaea activity.  What was not completed in class is homework over the weekend.

January 10th

Students began studying fossils today.  They will be learning about how fossils show evidence of a changing Earth.  I have moved the Earth’s Layer Ticket in the Door to tomorrow to give students additional time to look over the material.  

Homework: study the Earth’s Layers G.O., your illustration of the Earth’s layers, and the PPT presentation notes from today.  Students need to bring a glue stick to class tomorrow to complete the Pangaea activity.

We are still in need of donations of Kleenex.  Thank you so much for those students who have brought in a box.  It is really appreciated.

Students finished the Earth’s Layers Graphic Organizer and questions in class today.  Students will be completing an Earth’s Layer Ticket in the Door tomorrow to check for understanding.

Homework: 1.) Check Earth’s Layer G.O. with answer key below; 2.) Bring Unit 4 and Unit 5 folders tomorrow to class; and 3.) Donate Kleenex – I am out of Kleenex with flu season in full swing so any donations would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

January 8th

Students began working on information on Layers of the Earth.  We will finish the graphic organizer and questions in class tomorrow.  We will also illustrate the Layers of the Earth, so students will need to bring their colored pencils to class.  

Homework: Bring Unit 5 Folder on Thursday.  I will be collecting the Unit 4 folders then.  

Students will be completing a Ticket in the Door on Thursday on the Layers of the Earth.  This will help me to see what the students understanding is of the Layers of the Earth.

Welcome Back!

It was great being back in school today!

Students took the RI in class today.  We will be starting with Unit 5 – Dynamic Earth tomorrow.  The three topics that we will be covering are 1) Earth’s Layers, 2) Fossils, and 3) Plate Tectonics.
