This week in band (March 26th)

6th Grade

We will be doing our T-Shirt reorder the week after spring break. Please be on the look out for an order form. We are offering our 6th graders the opportunity to play in chamber ensembles before and after our 6th grade concert (Chamber Ensembles are really small groups with one person only playing each part). This is voluntary, because it does require students to come in early and practice. We open the band room at 8am every morning. If your student would like to come in and practice they are more than welcome, but please do not drop them off early. This causes a problem with unsupervised students.

7th Grade

A big thank you to everyone that has chaperoned over the last few days. We could not do the things that we do for our students without your help. LPGE was a great success, and all of our evaluators really enjoyed the concerts.

We will be continuing to work on Spring Concert music. Please make sure your student made it home with the entire uniform, and that it is not laying in a pile at the bottom of their closet. We will be wearing those uniforms again for the spring concert on May 1st.

8th Grade

A big thank you to everyone that has chaperoned over the last few days. We could not do the things that we do for our students without your help. LPGE and the MFA Southeastern Regional were a great success, and all of our evaluators really enjoyed the concerts.

We will be continuing to work on Spring Concert music. Please make sure your student made it home with the entire uniform, and that it is not laying in a pile at the bottom of their closet. We will be wearing those uniforms again for the spring concert on May 1st.

Rookie week at Walton for the marching band will be April 16-20. I cannot encourage each student enough to try this out. We have students each year that say they will never do marching band only to really enjoy rookie week. We will be sending out details soon about times and exact dates, but it will be after school each day that entire week. If you can only make one of those days please come on out and try it. You will not regret it.

This week in band (March 11)

6th Grade

As we continue to prepare for our spring concert, we are concentrating on developing the students skills on their instruments. We are encouraging all of our students to practice a little more as we approach the end of the year.

As we prepare to move forward we have made the students aware of several opportunities that will help them to advance on their instruments

Private lessons: The secret to excelling on any musical instrument in private lessons. If you are interested in having your student take private lessons please email Mr. Grimes.

Summer Camps: Over the next few weeks we will be posting information about summer camps. These are a fun way for your student to learn more about their instrument and meet new people. Please keep an eye on the blog for more information.

7th Grade

We have LGPE on Tuesday March 20th. We have sent home information about this, but please let Mr. Grimes know if you have any questions.

We do ask that every student make sure they have everything they need for their uniform. The final parts (including vests) will be going home this week. Please try on anything you have and make sure everything fits. We will not be resizing uniform parts on LGPE day. Any student not showing up in uniform on Tuesday will not be going with us to LGPE. If you have any questions about uniform parts please email Mr. Grimes.

Mr. Grimes and Mr. Brown will be out of town with the percussion this Thursday and Friday, but we have subs that will be able to rehearse the bands while we are aware. Please take a moment to make sure your student is prepared to learn while we are aware. We only have a few days left to prepare for LGPE, and each day needs to be full of learning.
