This Week in Band (Week of January 16th)

I hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend. We have several things going on this week, so please read the entire message. Email Mr. Grimes if you have any questions.

Uniform try on for 7th and 8th graders

Any student that was absent on uniform day needs to come in early on Thursday. We will be trying on uniforms from 8:00-9:15 that morning. Mr. Grimes notified the students that were missing parts of their uniform on Tuesday January 16th. Unfortunately, this is the only time we have to try on uniforms and get this fixed.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band will start up again this Friday January 19th. All 7th and 8th graders that are interested should meet in the band room at 8am.

8th Grade Symphonic Band Camp

All students attending the MFA Regional at Georgia State have a mandatory band camp this weekend. Students will stay after school on Friday till 7pm, and they will have rehearsal on Saturday from 9am-4pm. If you have any questions please email Mr. Grimes.

Tomorrow’s Performance

Tomorrow (January 3rd), will be the blue ribbon performance for select 8th graders.

Woodwind and Brass

Woodwind and Brass performers should plan to arrive at 9am. Please enter through the front door. We will be wearing concert uniforms. You can arrive wearing your uniform or you can plan on changing after we rehearse. The performance will be around 12:00, and you should done by 12:30.


Percussion performers should plan on arriving around 11:15am. Percussion performers will be wearing percussion T-shirt/Hoodie and jeans. Please dress warm. You should be done by 12:15.

Welcome Back (8th Grade Update please read)

Welcome back

6th Grade

Please make sure you have your theory books on January 4th. We will be turning those in on the that day.

7th Grade

We will be starting our new schedule on January 4th. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Grimes. We will start playing on January 5th.

8th Grade

We will be counting the scale test as the first grade of the 3rd nine weeks instead of counting it for the 2nd nine weeks. This means that you will have until the end of February to turn in the scale test.

Closing out before break

8th Graders:

Please remember that the spring trip deposit of $150 for all students is due this Friday December, 15th. If you have any questions please email Mr. Grimes.

On the morning of Wednesday December 20th, 8th grade band students will be performing in the halls as students arrive in the morning. Any interested 8th grader should arrive at 8am on the 20th dressed in festive holiday attire. Unfortunately, we do not have the room for parents to come in and watch.

7th Graders:

Starting in January all 7th grade students will be divided into Symphonic and Concert Bands. These decisions are based on playing test the students have taken throughout the year.

Symphonic Band students also have the opportunity to take band twice each day. We call the second class they sign up for double band. Students interested in double band will be bringing home a permission slip this week. If you have any questions about this please contact Mr. Grimes.

6th Grade

6th Graders will need their theory books on Tuesday December 19th and Wednesday December 20th during class.

This week in Band (Week of December 4th)

Mr. Brown and Mr. Grimes would like to thank all the students, parents, and administration at Dickerson for the great Winter Band concerts. All the concerts were a great success, and we appreciate all the support from this fantastic community all year long.

Percussion Ensemble

Congratulations to our percussion Ensemble on receiving a proclamation from the Cobb Commissioners for their acceptance to the National Percussion Ensemble Festival this year.


7th Grade

This week we will be sending home information about double band. All of our students in Symphonic band are allowed to take band twice a day starting in January. This does mean that they will only take band classes during their connections classes. There will be a permission slip and information coming home later this week.

8th Grade

8th Grade will begin playing tests on scales this week. Any student that does not want to take the tests in class can take the test at home and email it to Mr. Grimes at [email protected]


This week in Band (Week of November 27th)

All State and Honor Band this Saturday

All students that signed up for all state and honor band have their auditions this Saturday December 2nd. Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to their time. Dress code is no jeans or T-Shirts. If you are coming from or heading to a sporting event you can wear your team uniform (lots of people have to do this). If there are any issues please let Mr. Grimes know.

7th and 8th Grade Concert on Thursday

The 7th and 8th grade have a concert on Thursday. 7th Graders should report at 6:00. The 7th grade concert starts at 6:30. 8th Graders should report at 7:00. The 8th grade concert starts at 7:30. Dress for the concert will be tacky holiday sweaters or a band t-shirt. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown

Jazz Band

Jazz band will start on Friday. Any 7th or 8th grader playing saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, percussion, or guitar is welcome to join us in the band room at 8am.

6th Graders

Congratulations on a great concert! We will be playing everyday till break.

This week in band November 12th

6th Grade

We will be having our first concert this week. The concert will be on Thursday night in the theater at Dickerson. Students should report to school at 6:45. The concert will start at 7:00pm. The attire for the concert will be band T-shirt and jeans. If your student did not bring home their T-Shirt last week please have them talk to Mr. Grimes. If your student brought home a shirt that is to big we will be trying to make any changes we can this week. We did not order extra shirts, and we do not have a lot of smaller sizes. We will do what we can. Again, if you have questions please email Mr. Grimes.

7th and 8th Grade

Both grades will be taking playing tests this week to check on the music we will be playing for our concert. We have moved the concert to November 30th because the original date was on the first night of Chanukah. If you have any issues with the date change please let Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown know.

8th Grade Band going on the Georgia State Trip

The brass section (Trumpets, Horns, Euphoniums, Trombones, and Tubas) for the Georgia State trip will be having rehearsal Friday morning at 8am in the band room. All students going on the trip should be there. If you have any questions please email Mr. Grimes.

Upcoming Concerts and Rehearsals

6th Grade

Our 6th Grade will have their first concert on Thursday  November 16th. We will be sending home information about the concert along with T Shirts today. Students will report at 6:45 and the concert will start at 7:00. If you have any questions please email Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown.

7th Grade and 8th Grade 

We are moving the 7th and 8th grade concert to Thursday November 30th.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes your family.. The 7th grade concert will start at 6:30 and the 8th grade concert will start at 7:30. There will be a brief information meeting after the 8th grade concert about the spring trip. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown

Southeastern Regional Rehearsal

On Friday November 17th all brass students (trumpets, Horns, Trombones, Euphoniums, and Tubas) going on the Southeastern Invitational trip have a rehearsal from 8:00 -8:50 am in the band room. This is required for all students performing in March with the 8th grade band.

Fundraiser Pickup


Pickup for our fundraiser will be tomorrow, (October 25th) from 2-6pm. We will be sending the smaller orders home with your students, but you are more than welcome to come pick up at any time after 2. If you have a large order, and you would like to make special arrangements please email Mr. Grimes.

This Week in Band (Week of October 9th)


We have several things going on in band this week, so please read the information below.

6th Grade

Our 6th graders are doing very well. They have continued to grow, and they are starting to sound nice. We will start playing tests next week for their first grade of the new nine weeks. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown

7th Grade

Our 7th grade students will begin to be measured for uniforms this week. Tuesday all ladies will be fitted for dresses. Wednesday all gentlemen will be fitted for vests and shirts. You will get paperwork later in the week with all the information you need about ordering and fees for uniforms. We will not be measuring the gentlemen for tuxes until later in the month.

8th Grade

Our 8th grade students will be starting Symphonic Band and Concert Band classes this week. We also have several of our students that will be in double class. Below you will find information for each class your student is in.

Symphonic Band /Concert Band– Our band has been invited to perform at the Southeastern Regional Concert Festival at Georgia State University. This is a huge honor, and we will be performing on Wednesday March 21st. Your student should have brought home a permission slip and information about rehearsals for the trip. Doubler Class – Our full orchestra has been invited to perform at the KSU Orchestral Invitational on Saturday November 4th. You should have been given a permission slip this week. If not then you can download it here:
