6th Grade Band
Our 6th grade concert is fast approaching on November 27th. We will be wearing band T-Shirts and Jeans for that concert. Our band T-shirts were sent home two weeks ago. The concert will be at 6:30pm and will only last about 30 minutes. Students should arrive 15 minutes early and wait in the band room. All students are expected to attend all concerts. If there is any issue please let Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown know as soon as possible.
7th and 8th Grade Band
Our first concert will be the night of November 29th at 6:30 for 7th grade and 7:30 for 8th grade. We will continue our tradition of letting the students wear tacky holiday sweaters for this concert. If your student does not want to wear a sweater then a band T-shirt will be fine. Students should arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the concert in order to get their instrument and be seated in time for the warm up. As always, all concerts are required. If there are any issues please contact Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown as soon as possible.

On Friday we sent home information about SmartMusic.com This website (and corresponding apps) will be how we test students for the foreseeable future. You have the option of purchasing a home subscription for $40 a year. This will allow your student more time to complete assignments and provide them with valuable feedback as they play. First round audition times will be sent home this week. Please prepare to pass off all scales and sight reading with Mr. Grimes by November 16th.
We continue to prepare for our 6th grade concert on November 27th. The concert attire will be jeans and the band T-Shirt. Band T-Shirts were sent home last week. There is now a tab at the top of the page called assessment. Any student wishing to make up a test (written or playing) can find the information about the test there.

Tomorrow is our Solo and Ensemble preview concert. Below you will find the schedule for the evening. Concert dress will be nice clothing (no jeans, t-shirts, or tennis shoes), but you do not have to wear your band uniform.

You should have received a schedule for Saturday last week. Your student should arrive at Hightower Trail Middle School 30 minutes before their scheduled performance time. You will head to the cafeteria to warm up (there will be signs). Your student should be outside their judges room 5 minutes before their performance time. All students have been working hard over the past few weeks. We have started preparation for our November Concerts, and Solo and Ensemble Festival
Fundraiser Delivery (All Grades)
Our fundraiser delivery will be next Wednesday October 24th from 11am-6pm. If you come during the school day you will probably still need to sign in at the front office. We do not have the ability to store items, so everything must be picked up on this day. We are still looking for a few volunteers to help. If you are available please sign up below.

Solo and Ensemble Groups
We continue to prepare for Solo and Ensemble. Please remember that all Solo and Ensemble groups have two performances. On the night of November 1st we will have a Preview concert in the Dickerson Theater at 7pm. The concert will be followed by a short reception.
Solo and Ensemble will be two days later on Saturday November 3rd at Hightower Trail Middle School. We have just received times, and I will be passing those out on Friday. If you have any questions please let me know.

8th Grade Chicago trip
An email went out today to all parents selected to be a chaperone on the trip. The next payment is due November 9th. If you have any questions or concerns please let us know.
On Friday October 5th we will be having our 8th grade night with the Walton Band. All 8th graders will be attending the game, marching in with the band, and performing in the stands with the band. Below you will find the schedule and the forms. If your 8th grader has not turned in their forms yet it is not to late! Please get them in as soon as possible.
5:45 – Report to Walton High School – Enter at the main entrance to the new building off of
Bill Murdock Road.
6:00 – Band Meeting in the theater (Practice and get ready to march into the stadium)
7:30 – Game begins
9:45 – Game will end sometime around here. They can run long, so we will have students
text you when the game is almost over.
After Game – There is a small dessert social after every game for parents and students on the band practice field (the parking lot next to the stadium).

Mr. Brown and Mr. Grimes would like to thank everyone who participated in the fundraiser. It was a big success, and we could not do all of this without your help.
6th Grade – 6th Grade will be continuing with class as normal. We have our first playing test at the end of this week.
7th Grade – 7th grade will be finishing up playing tests this week. Please make sure you have checked your students grade in the past few weeks. If you have any questions please let Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown know.
8th Grade – parents please do not forget that Chicago deposits are due this Wednesday September 19th. You can play on mypaymentsplus, or you can send in a check. Please realize that this is a hard deadline, and we cannot extend it.
We sent home information about 8th grade night at Walton last week. There is no cost for 8th grade night, but permission forms are due this Friday. We encourage everyone to join us for this event. It allows your child the opportunity to see what the marching band is like in a fun environment. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Grimes or Mr. Brown.

We have a lot going on over the next two weeks, so we wanted to go ahead and let you know about everything.
Fund Raiser (All Grades)
All students will turn in their fundraiser monies on Friday September 7th or Monday September 10th. Students will need to bring money for all items, their order form and their tally sheet. We will have band parents collecting money during each class. If you are making a donation in lieu of selling, please bring your check in on the same days.
Solo and Ensemble (7th and 8th Grade only)
Students wishing to perform in solo and ensemble should turn in their permission form and money by Friday September 7th. This event does take place on Saturday November 3rd, and it is completely optional for 7th and 8th graders. You can download the form here:

All State and Honor Band registration is due on Friday September 14th. This is an optional event for students, and there are several dates involved. Please make sure you have looked through all the paperwork, and you are available for all dates before you sign up.

Chicago Trip (8th Grade Only)
Yesterday we sent home the information about the Chicago trip. We are sending home an updated Intent form today. We apologize for the inconvenience of having to fill out this form twice. We are starting our band fundraiser this week. On Friday August 24th each student received a fundraiser packet. Attached is a letter that was sent home about what we spend the money on.
Fundraising Letter 2018-19
If you would like to make a donation instead of selling the cheesecakes and cookies, then you may just turn in a check. On average we raised $75 per student last year.
If you do decided to sell as a family we ask that you do the following:
- Turn in all orders on September 7th or 10th.
- Make sure that you collect money as you sell the item, and all checks collected should be made out to the parent.
- Please turn in only one check for the entire amount of your ordermade out to Dickerson Middle School.
There was some information sent home by the fundraising company about paying by credit card. At this time we are not set up to do this, so please disregard that information.
