Monthly Archives: March 2018

Week of March 25th

UPCOMING DATES:

March 31- April 8 – Spring Break!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING THIS WEEK?

WRITING – We are continuing writing poetry. The students were able to wear their new poetry glasses to be able to see through a “poet’s eyes”. The students are doing a fantastic job! This week we will focus on picking a big idea or feeling and then find a small moment that signifies that big idea.

OG / LANGUAGE ARTS – We will be working on “reptile” words. The first syllable in these words are closed (rep) and the second syllable is a magic e syllable (tile)

*Please continue to review the trick words your child has still not mastered for Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. Students are expected to read and write these words by the end of the year. The trick word list is in your child’s BEE folder.*

READING – Students will continue series book clubs.  They are doing an in depth study about the main characters in their books and share with their reading partners.

MATH – It’s time for geometry! We have reviewed 2D shapes  (circle, triangle, trapezoid, square, rectangle, parallelogram, pentagon & hexagon) and their attributes (# of vertices, # of angles, and # of sides).  We will begin looking at 3D shapes, focusing on the cube.  We have also learned how to partition shapes by cutting them up equally. The students are starting to put a fraction name with how shapes are partitioned.

UNIT STUDY –  We have been studying and taking notes on our Georgia hero, Jimmy Carter!

Week of March 19th

Wow! We are officially in the 4th quarter!

Book fair has been a huge hit this week! The students are coming in with some really fantastic books. The last day to buy books will be this Thursday.

On another note, report cards go home tomorrow (Wednesday). Please sign the envelope and return just the envelope so I know you have seen it. Of course if you have any questions about your child’s report card, do not hesitate to contact me.

UPCOMING DATES:

March 16 – 22 – Book Fair

March 21 – Kindergarten and new student registration

March  21– Report Cards go home (please sign the envelope and return just the envelope)

March 22 – PTA Meeting 6:30pm

March 31- April 8 – Spring Break!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING THIS WEEK?

WRITING – We have begun our poetry unit and will write our own poetry by looking through a poet’s eyes.

OG / LANGUAGE ARTS – We will continue looking and reviewing Magic “e” words (example, mice, cute, cake, etc.).  We will also concentrate on Magic “e” with “g” and “c”.  The magic “e” can make “g” and “c” say their soft sounds. Ex: face, cage

*Please continue to review the trick words your child has still not mastered for Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. Students are expected to read and write these words by the end of the year. The trick word list is in your child’s BEE folder.*

READING – Students will begin series book clubs.  They will have the opportunity to begin an in depth study about the main characters in their books and share with their reading partners.

We will also continue practicing telling time. Telling time can be a hard skill to learn unless we are practicing it a lot. Please quiz your child at home to see if they know what time it is (to the 5 minutes).

UNIT STUDY –  We have started studying and taking notes on our Georgia hero, Jimmy Carter!

Week of March 12th

Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting the past couple of weeks. We have been having a great time in our class finishing up our reading of Charlotte’s Webb, getting a class picture taken, enjoying the new turf field (thank you Foundation!), challenging ourselves to make eye contact when someone is talking, learning about fairytales and fables, and solving money word problems.

Please remember to read as well as practice math facts each night.

Some dates to know:

March 14 – Early Release (2 hours early); End of 3rd quarter

March 16 – 22 – Book Fair

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING THIS WEEK?

WRITING – Our opinion writing is finishing up! Students are working hard to revise and publish their writing. When they are finished they will be writing their own fable as we have been studying fables.

OG / LANGUAGE ARTS – Our focus this week will be on the magic e rule.  Magic e jumps over the consonant to make the vowel say its name.

GRAMMAR – We will continue to identify and use adjectives and adverbs in sentences.

*Please continue to review the trick words your child has still not mastered for Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. Students are expected to read and write these words by the end of the year. The trick word list is in your child’s BEE folder.*

MATH – We will continue reviewing 3 digit addition and subtraction as well as start our new unit on shapes (identifying and drawing based on angles, vertices, etc)

UNIT STUDY – Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts) will be our focus for week! We will be doing some research on her using iPads.
