It’s Time for Trivia!

In anticipation of this week’s exciting release of the movie version of Veronica Roth’s bestselling young adult novel Divergent, I think we should feature a little trivia and give away a few goodies. Rather than reveal juicy details from this super popular book, let’s instead highlight one of the best resources Durham offers its students and staff. If you aren’t using the online resources through Cobb Digital Library, you are definitely complicating your educational experience. CDL provides current, reliable, and accurate information from trustworthy experts in all academic areas and is a one-stop shop for students and teachers. During the morning news each day this week, a trivia question about CDL will be presented. Students and teachers are encouraged to send their answers to the media center. Winners will be announced daily and will have an opportunity to choose from my stash of Scholastic books, including recently added copies of Divergent. Let’s play.

Scholastic Book Fair Reflection

Thanks to everyone who helped make our annual Scholastic Book Fair a great success last week! We totaled $4,556.67 in sales earning $2,650.92 in resources from Scholastic. Through Scholastic dollars earned from previous fairs, the Durham Media Center has added many new books that meet the various interests and needs of both students and teachers alike. Credits earned through Scholastic support 100% of our trivia giveaways like November’s Catching Fire Promo and the upcoming Divergent promotional expected later this month, as well as fun student trinkets like the “Read” bracelets distributed at the holidays and to fair guests this year, plus the complimentary bookmarks offered at the circulation desk.  Also, many of the displays and signage that appear throughout the year are funded by Book Fair credits. This year’s new student-friendly seating area was also purchased with Scholastic money, and credits are even used to provide gifts for our Durham Media Center and copy lab parent volunteers. Your purchases at the Book Fair significantly improve Durham’s Media Center, so thanks so much for your support! Also a big shout out to the awesome Student Book Crew without whom the Fair would not have been possible.
