The video that is airing on the news this week is too big to be uploaded to our blog, so here’s the transcript below with the details of how you can win a copy of Lois Lowry’s The Giver.
“I wonder if you guys get as excited as I do when a book I’ve read is released as a movie? My mind starts reeling with imaginings of how the characters will be portrayed and especially what they will look like, and my hope is always that the book’s integrity is honored. The movie release also renews my interest in the story, and I generally reread the book so that all the details are fresh in my mind in preparation for the viewing experience. The movie release of Lois Lowry’s classic novel The Giver brings similar reactions for me—excitement and anticipation in the movie release of this 1994 Newbery Medal Winner into a new format. I’m eager to see a new generation react to this work, and for it to be seen through young eyes. I imagine there are many of you who would be excited to own your very own paperback copy of this book, right? Especially if that copy were the latest release with extra features and bonus material. Well, now you have your chance. Thanks to last spring’s Scholastic Book Fair earnings, the Durham Media Center will be giving away 25 brand new paperback copies of The Giver. Check out a book this week, and complete an entry form at the circulation desk. Twenty-five lucky winners will be announced this Friday. Until then, check out one of our print, ebook, or audiobook copies. Good luck!”
Sincerely, Mrs. Baker
Update: On Friday, September 12th, 25 lucky Durham students were treated with their very own brand new paperback copies of Lois Lowry’s The Giver! Thanks to those who supported our annual Scholastic Book Fair in the spring of 2014 as the earnings from that event supported this exciting promotional for our students. Be sure to tune in daily to the Wildcat Way Today as you never know what the media center might be offering.
