Okay, kids. Here’s the chance for your voices to be heard. Have an opinion? Let’s find out how to convince others to see issues just as we do by using research to support our perspectives. You have chosen argumentative essay topic from the provided list. Here’s what you will need to do before starting the research.

  1. Look at the essay topic you have chosen.

  2. Break down the question. Identify the key words you will use to begin the research.

  3. Determine what information you will need in order to convince your audience to see the issue as you do.

  4. Use the ACADEMIC databases in the Cobb Digital Library (CDL) to support your claim.

Citing Sources:

  1. Cite every source from which you take notes.
  2. Use the Citation Tool to generate the citation in MLA format
  3. Copy and paste each citation into a Word document in Office 365. This information will be necessary for creating the Works Cited.

Read Across America is just around the corner! This year the Durham Media Center will be connecting Durham students with Frey Elementary School students grades K-2. Durham students who apply and are selected will visit Frey during Read Across America Week, Monday, February 25 – Friday, March 1 and will read selections from their favorite picture books. If you are a Durham student who would like to share the joy of reading aloud with our neighboring students, head to the Durham Media Center to pick up an application.

World Read Aloud Day

The 10th Annual World Read Aloud Day is Friday, February 1, 2019

The 10th Annual World Read Aloud Day 2019 “LitWorld®.” LitWorld®, www.litworld.org/.

The Durham Media Center celebrates reading every day, but on Friday, February 1, 2019 an extra special celebration will be taking place. Students from Mrs. Dean’s, Mrs. Slade’s, Mrs. Stahler’s, Dr. Gay’s, Mrs. Gavin’s, Mrs. Hall’s, and Mrs. Hardin’s classes will be participating in First Chapter Friday where they will hear special guests including ELA teachers Mrs. Dean, Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Stahler, as well as Durham Media Specialist, Mrs. Baker, and Durham’s Administrative Team of Principal, Dr. Alford, and Assistant Principals, Mrs. Thorpe, and Mr. Fowler read the first chapters of some of their favorite books. Students will have the opportunity to rate the books based upon their interest. On the school days that follow, students will visit the Durham Media Center to check out the titles of their choosing. This special event will expose students a variety of titles, authors, genres, and perspectives. Season’s Readings Celebration

The students who read at least 20 minutes each day during their holiday break and logged their reading minutes using Biblionasium have been invited to a Pizza Party Thursday, January 17th! Invitations will be sent to qualifying students. This is the very first time the media center has hosted a luncheon like this one, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! You rock, Wildcat Readers!
