Who Has a Golden Ticket?

Golden TicketAs a celebration of April’s School Library Month, the media center recently hosted a Golden Ticket Giveaway in the spirit of Roald Dahl’s classic novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Throughout the day Thursday, April 23rd, 50 lucky students found Golden Tickets in their lockers which they traded for new paperback books the media center had earned from its annual Scholastic Book Fair in March. Hopefully these treats brought smiles to the winners on the days directly after state testing.

Read Across America

Durham Media Center celebrated Read Across America throughout the month of March featuring fun, festive displays and Dr. Seuss trivia via the morning announcements. The annual Scholastic Book Fair, also open during Dr. Seuss’ birthday week, added to the celebrations. Media specialist Mrs. Baker even dressed up in the spirit of the occasion. Also added during the month were the fun “speech bubbles” featured in photos below. Students from the Library Media Committee helped make them to entice patrons to check out the newest books added to the collection.

It’s Time for Trivia!

In anticipation of this week’s exciting release of the movie version of Veronica Roth’s bestselling young adult novel Divergent, I think we should feature a little trivia and give away a few goodies. Rather than reveal juicy details from this super popular book, let’s instead highlight one of the best resources Durham offers its students and staff. If you aren’t using the online resources through Cobb Digital Library, you are definitely complicating your educational experience. CDL provides current, reliable, and accurate information from trustworthy experts in all academic areas and is a one-stop shop for students and teachers. During the morning news each day this week, a trivia question about CDL will be presented. Students and teachers are encouraged to send their answers to the media center. Winners will be announced daily and will have an opportunity to choose from my stash of Scholastic books, including recently added copies of Divergent. Let’s play.
