Conferences were held last week. By now, students should have brought home their Q1 Report Cards on Friday, October 21, 2016 for those parents who did not attend their child’s conference.  Should you have questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate your child’s homeroom teacher.

Our Title 1 Input meeting is this Thursday October 27, 2016 at 5PM in the Media Center. Please join us to provide input for our school’s Title 1 plan.

Magnet School Applications are now available, the deadline to submit applications is December 1, 2016, except for Pebblebrook Performing Arts.

The Red Ribbon Campaign is the largest and oldest drug prevention program in the nation, and it kicked off today for students across the nation.  The schedule for East Cobb Middle School’s Red Ribbon week is as follows:

Monday – “Use your Head, wear Red”  Wear Read Day
Tuesday – “Put a Cap on Drugs!”  Wear a Hat Day
Wednesday – “Black Out Drugs” Wear Black Day
Thursday – “Sock it to Drugs” Wear Mismatched or Crazy Socks Day  Note: Thursday is also a Pink Out in support of Breast Cancer Awareness
Friday –  “Team Up Against Drugs and Stay in the Game!”  Wear your favorite team or spirit wear Note: Friday is also Pajama Day.  Student can wear school appropriate pajamas with a $2 donation.


Week of October 17th

It’s Conference Week! Conferences will be held the week of October 17, 2016.  Students will be dismissed from school at 2:15 for the entire week (October 17, 2016 – October 21, 2016.  If you haven’t heard from your child’s homeroom teacher and would like a conference, please contact the homeroom teacher as soon as possible.

Parents, we would appreciate you completing the School Climate Survey/Georgia Parent Survey. Due to the Conference Week schedule there will be NO school wide Detention on the afternoon of Thursday, October 20, 2016.

The Scholastic Book Fair is this week in the Media Center!  The Media Center will be open 8:30AM – 4:00PM Monday through Thursday and 8:30AM – 12:00PM on Friday.  Cash or credit/debit cards will be accepted.  All proceeds benefit the ECMS PTSA and our media center.  Come shop for some great books!

ECMS’s Got Talent!
On sale now… East Cobb Has Talent Show tickets!  Tickets will be on sale all this week (10/17 – 10/21). Tickets are $3.  Please note that students must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult as well.  There is no charge for participants.

All Box Tops should be cut out and in a Ziploc bag with your child’s homeroom teacher’s name on it. The Collection Box is in the Main Hallway across from the Attendance Office, next to the PTSA safe. The deadline is October 24th!

PTSA and The Foundation is kicking off a joint fundraiser. Rather than selling candy or wrapping paper they are asking for ECMS families to simply make a tax deductible donation to the Jr. Wildcat Campaign.  They have sent home a blue flyer and envelope that outlines the campaign goals and supports/benefits of your donations.  Thank you!

picture-retake-dayPicture retakes are this Thursday, October 13, 2016!  Students new to ECMS or those that just want retakes, come ready to SMILE for the camera! Picture envelopes are available in the front office or students can ask their homeroom teacher for an envelope.  These are yearbook pictures and they will be featured in the yearbook.  Yearbooks are currently on sale for $30.  Prices will increase!

report-cardQuarter 1 Reports Cards will be distributed during Conference Week.  There will be several items included in the envelope.  If you do not receive your child’s report card and additional information, please follow up with your child’s homeroom teacher.

8th Grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.  For more information regarding testing; refer to Testing Updates.

Special Education News!  Please come to Hawthorne Center, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 (9:30 AM-11:00 AM) for a session where parents will learn how to use visual supports to increase communication exchanges for children with low verbal skills and how to increase oral expression during literacy activities.  For more information regarding this session; refer to Special Education News.

Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School presents ComPAny 2017 “ON THE RADIO” and Fall Performing Arts Magnet Open House for interested 8th graders/parents (Registration is 6:30 – 7:00) at the Cobb Civic Center on Friday, October 7, 2016 @ 7:30PM
A Q&A session and reception will follow the performance. Friday evening’s performance of ON THE RADIO is free for all 8th graders and their families while tickets last. For more information >>>

Box Tops are being collected until October 24, 2016. All Box Tops should be cut out and in a plastic bag with the student’s homeroom teacher’s name on it. A collection box is in the Main Hallway across from the attendance office, next to the PTSA safe. The homeroom with the most box tops collected will win a donut celebration!
