National Assessment of Educational Progress -NAEP will be assessing a random sampling of 8thgrade students at East Cobb Middle School for Reading and Mathematics on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. There will be an AM and PM group. Letters for selected students were distributed on Friday, February 8, 2019.

Parents of 8th graders the Rising 9th Grade Parent Night at Wheeler High School is Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 6PM in the WHS Auditorium. Come learn what WHS has to offer. Showcase begins at 6:30.

Math/Science Night will be held on Pi Day March 14, 2019 at 6PM –We encourage families to come and participate in fun and interactive innovative math and science activities.  It’s a great time every year!

ECMS is offering a Write Right Invitational
Let’s help students with innovative writing strategies to improve writing skills and learn new writing techniques…Prompts provided for all genres of writing (informational, argumentative, and narrative writing) with editing and revision assistance and feedback provided. Sign-up by grade level for March 9th or March 23rd or both days from 9AM -12PM.  Let’s improve our writing and improve our performance!

The Brumby and East Cobb Middle School Crazy Socks & Shake Your Shamrocks 5K is to raise funds for the East Cobb Middle School PE Department and the Brumby STEM program.  50% of the proceeds from the race will go toward the Brumby STEM program, and 50% of the proceeds will go to purchase equipment for students’ use in the ECMS Health and PE Department.


Winter Break!

No school!  Winter Break – The Cobb County School District will be closed for Winter Break – February 18, 2019 – February 22, 2019.  Students will report back to school on February 25, 2019!

Quarter 3 Progress Reports will be made available on February 12, 2019 in StudentVue and ParentVue. Important information will be sent home in the envelope. Please sign on the appropriate line indicating that you have viewed your child’s progress report online and reviewed the contents in the envelope. Students should return the signed envelope to their homeroom teacher as soon as possible

“Bring your parent to school day (A half-day opportunity to shadow your student)”. On February 14, 2019 for 6th grade and February 15, 2019 for 7th and 8th grades. Sign-ups will be available through our website via BlackBoard Connect this week. There are a limited number of parents that can participate; first come, first serve. Parents please adhere to the student dress code and the code of conduct for cell phone use (no cell phone use during your visit unless for instruction at teacher direction).

Effective Monday, February 11, 2019 the WildCat Café  will no longer provide change to students.  Students will need to bring exact change for purchases; otherwise change will be placed on their lunch account.

If you were affected by the Federal government shut down and you are in need of food, please reach out to our school social worker, Mrs. Bright. You can reach her at monica.bright@cobbk12.org . We have a food panty at school and will be glad to help you during this difficult time. If you are in need of other resources, please contact the United Way by simply dialing 211 on your phone.

The CCSD will be closed for Winter Break – February 18, 2019 – February 22, 2019.

Monday, February 25th Pajama Day – Read in your pajamas for silent reading. Tuesday, February 26th Crazy About Reading Day – Wear your crazy hair and/or crazy socks. Wednesday, February 27th Favorite Literary Character or Author Day – Dress as your favorite literary character or favorite author. Thursday, February 28th Oh, the Places You Will Go Day! – Dress in the clothing of the profession you be when you grow up! Friday, March 1st Dr. Seuss Day – Wear your best Dr. Seuss gear.

Spread the word that Rising 6th Grade Parent Night is February 7, 2019 at 6PM in the East Cobb Middle School Theater. After an information session, there will be a tour of the building. In addition to the Rising 6th Grade Family Tour that evening, there will also be a 30-minute tour for the community that will begin at 7PM.

8th Grade Students: Remember to bring in the permission slip to attend the Wheeler High School Field Trip. Students do not want to miss it. It’s a great opportunity to see what’s on the horizon as students will soon be 9th graders! Although permission slips were due Tuesday, January 29, 2019; we have extended the window. Please turn permission slips in as soon as possible. The field trip is Friday, February 8, 2019. We don’t want any of our 8th graders to miss out.
