Homework Reminders

If your child has not mastered the 1st grade sight word list, we highly encourage that you practice sight words with your child child at least 2-3 nights a week. Sight word practice is in addition to the regular weekly homework, which consists of the following:

Math (1 page, front and back)

Nightly Reading (15 minutes, 3-4 nights a week)

Spelling (2 selected activities from the choice menu)

*Phonics (only assigned as needed)

*Sight Word Practice (as needed, 2-3 nights a week)

First grade homework is assigned at the beginning of each week and should be returned to school by the end of the week. Please use your discretion to your pace your child based on their individual needs. Homework dog cip art

Important Updates

  • Eastvalley Traffic Delays Expected
    • The East Cobb Pipeline Project begins Saturday, September 12, 2015. Traffic delays are expected around the following schools: Sope Creek Elementary, Eastvalley Elementary, Brumby Elementary, East Cobb Middle, and Wheeler High. Please make adjustments to your travel time and commute to the schools as of Saturday, and as needed, depending upon the construction schedule.
  • The Education Enchrichment Campaign: Deadline has been extended to Wednesday, September 16th at 7p.m. . Thank you in advance for your continued support, and don’t forget to donate today! You can see how to donate on our school website!
  • Fall Break (September 21-25)   fall
    • No school! Enjoy your break!

Reminders:

Wednesday and Thursday are EARLY RELEASE days. Students will be released 2 hours early.

Please remember- NO BACKPACKS or LUNCHBOXES on THURSDAY. If your child is bringing their lunch, please send it in a disposable bag. Thank you!!

FIELD DAY!!!

  • Wear sunscreen and a hat
  • Wear sneakers / tennis shoes (no open-toe shoes)
  • Many events involve water & paint, so bring a change of clothes
  • Drinking water is provided at water stations on the field
  • Parents: come watch your kids from 8:15 to 11:15.

Thanks to the Eastvalley Educational Enrichment Campaign, the EV Foundation & PTA have purchased t-shirts for ALL students. These will be given to students the morning of field day.

Please do not park on the grassy areas in front of the school or on any side streets where you may be towed. East Side Baptist parking is less than a block away!

Important Info and Upcoming Dates

quiet-testing-signApril 15-21: GA Milestones Testing (No visitors from 7:15-11:00) 

3rd– 5th Georgia Milestones testing beganWednesday morning at 7:50am. Eastvalley Elementary will have a “testing lockdown” Wednesday, 4/15 to Tuesday, 4/21 7:50am-11:00am each day so no visitors, volunteers, or guest readers will be allowed in the building. This will provide a quiet, optimum testing environment for the testing students. Volunteers will be allowed to enter Eastvalley after 11:00am. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

stickerEV’s Sticker Relay will continue on Monday and Tuesday of this coming week. Stickers will be sold in the hallways throughout the school for 25 cents each, from 7:20a.m. to 7:50a.m. . One class per grade level will win a popsicle treat, and the class who buys the most stickers will win an ice cream treat. All money raised will go to support Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.

 

 

Read Across America clip

Monday March 2nd is Read Across America Day! Dress as your favorite book character for the day and if possible bring a copy of the book to school with you. Costumes must be school appropriate attire. Be creative and have fun!!! Let’s see how many different book characters we can have at Eastvalley!

GA AquriumFirst grade is so excited to announce our upcoming field trip to The Georgia Aquarium on March 24th!!! Event details and permission forms were sent home last week. Please read over the information carefully and return as soon as possible. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

The Georgia Department of Education is administering a Georgia Parent Survey. This survey will be used to calculate a School Climate Star Rating within the College and Career Performance Index for all Georgia schools, including Eastvalley Elementary.

You will be able to complete this survey using your personal computer, smartphone or iPad and should take no longer than 5-10 minutes. Surveys are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. They will, however, be a part of the next CCRPI score.

We would greatly appreciate your participation in this important survey. The link to the survey is listed below. After you click the link, a drop-down menu will appear and you will be able to select our school district (Cobb County) and school (Eastvalley Elementary). Friday is Pajama Day at EV!!

keep calm its pj dayWHEN: FRIDAY, JANUARY 23

TO BENEFIT: Eastvalley’s FIFTH GRADERS! Help them raise money for their upcoming trip to the Driftwood Science Center. You have some FUN options….

For $1 – Wear your PAJAMAS and your favorite slippers to school. (You may still want to pack another pair of shoes for recess, PE, etc…)

For an additional $1, you may bring a stuffed animal to school!

Regarding your pajamas – Seeing it is winter, pajamas must be ‘long’ pants; no strappy tops (must be short sleeved or long-sleeved).

Regarding the Stuffed Animal – NO oversized animals, please.
